Amazed how two people already failed to understand that joke, which is older than these boards.

I see a lot of people Montreal should give him an eight year deal at $8m. That would be fair considering six of those years are UFA years.

Giroux's contract includes six UFA years and is eight years at $8.275 million.

That's actually not bad but it would have to come with a Subban extension and the 1st would have to be 2016 or beyond because that's going to be a top 5 pick in 2015.

If I'm Subban, I take the arbitrators ruling, agree to it for 2 years (doesn't he have the option of 1 or 2 years?) and then go UFA. If he accepts 1 year, then next year he goes RFA again, and this time Montreal can elect 1 or 2 years.. They will of course take him for 2 years and eat up 1 yr UFA.

8 X 8 I would do…

… but if Subban is looking for 10 million+, then I seriously consider shopping him. I'd give that to a young Weber, Chara, or Pronger, but I strongly believe that the Subban's, McDonagh's, and Doughty's are 8-8.5 million dollar players…

I just wonder if this guy is a head case, because MTL has never seemed too infatuated with him.

I don't get it. Pay the man.
Everybody sees different things in players and what one organization values might be something not as important to other organizations. Would every gm want Subban on their team? Probably yes. Would every GM want him on an 8 year $70 mil contract? Maybe not. Maybe the Habs feel he is a type of player that would get complacent on a long term contract for example. Speculation on my part of course, but it might be why they pushed so hard for the bridge contract, and why they haven't come to a long term deal now.

I can understand McKenzie's point though. If you give one of those long term deals (especially with a NMC/NTC), you had better be sure it is someone you want to commit to for that term, because if things fall apart, you are likely getting pennies on the dollar in return in a trade because you are handicapped either by teams that you can deal with because of the NTC/NMC, the cap, or both.

Someone's gonna give it to him, so it might as well be you own team

Exactly why I want it, I see it more top 10ish though, they didn't even finish that low this year, and Subban helps a bit.

I thought about making a proposal thread but it would get **** on by fans of both teams.

A lot of players used to take these arbitration cases so seriously but it seems like PK is taking things in stride. If I was a Habs fan I'd feel pretty relaxed under the circumstances as Subban has become a real fixture in Montreal and I think he revels in being a superhero in Quebec.

I hope you realize his was only kidding...

Not sure why Mtl management is trying to nickel and dime Subban, they are going to regret it when he leaves.

Winnipeg is going to get murdered in the new Central division. I see that team picking 1st or 2nd overall to be honest. I know they have some players but the division is way too strong next year. If I were you guys I would be more than happy taking Ladd out and still doing the deal if it is 2015 1st. You're going to draft a stud with that pick.

No, it was player-elected arbitration, so the team sets the term. Obviously they do not want a 2-year term, taking PK to UFA status.

Like I knew before I clicked on this thread that all it would be was "Subban going to play with Stamkos in Toronto :sarc asm:: sarcasm:" and you didn't disappoint, but in a much truer sense you did.
