Unreal that they're playing this game with Subban.

Good way to piss off your best player.

Subban and Fucale for Trouba and a 2015 1st. That hurts my body so much, but longterm it might be worth it if the pick became McDavid/Eichel/Hanifin. Hanifin-Trouba could be a pretty redonkulous 1st pairing.

I can't think of another reason to be quite frank

I don't categorically disagree with them but without him that team is a bottom feeder

Just to add to what Jeff O'Neil tweeted, he told the story of what happen on hayes show a while back. It was pretty funny, he pretty much walked in and Jim Rutherford looked him dead in the eyes and said "I have watched hockey for 40 years and that was the worst playoff performance I have ever seen in my life, he cost us the series" (paraphrasing). That's why O never wanted to play for them again.

They'd have to add a boatload of 1st's or Morgan Reilly type asset to move the Clarkson contract, plus the clauses in both Phaneuf and Clarkson's contract makes options really limited to them.

Subban was NOT, repeat, NOT asking for 8x8. He wanted north of 10 for 8.

I know it's hard for some fans to understand, perhaps because it's more fun trolling, but try to understand something. PK said two days ago that "it's not personal, it's bu$in$$". Is that hard for some to understand? Do you need a dictionary?

It's about the money. PK has no reason to accept 8x8 or 9x8 when we all know that some GM will offer 12x8 at FA. So like the man said, accept and scrape by the 8 million the arbitrator will give ham adn go for the big pay day.

Read his lips...slowly....."it's not personal, it's bu$in$$".

Period. End of story.

PK chose arbitration this year, so Habs pick the length (1-2 years)
If PK holds out next year and the Habs take him to arbitration, then he gets to pick...which would certainly be 1 year

The contract offer from the Habs was 8 years and the term was a lot closer to Subban's 8.5M demand than people think. The "low ball" offer from the Habs was just for arbitration purposes where one side takes the min. amount set by the arbitrator & the other takes the max. amount set by the arbitrator on a 1 year deal. It's just part of the process.... the arbitrator then chooses an amount between the two.

Correct.

Though there's nothing stopping Subban from filing for arbitration against next year and still becoming a UFA in July 2016 (other than the risk of injury), so he still controls his fate in that regard.

Weird situation. I can't think of an appropriate precedent.

To be fair, Subban's "demand" was also for arbitration purposes, and was only for a one-year RFA deal. No one knows what his number was for an eight year contract.

Montreal position may very well cost them PK....

A credible source stated that it is between 8 and 9M a year for 8 years which I agree is the likely asking point. He is worth his asking of 8.5 from the arbitrator if you look at Shea Weber .....the only D man who is in the upper class of D man who has went to arbitration and that is what he got 3 years ago under a 64M cap limit.

A Norris winning D man....

If the Habs lose Subban somehow over the next 2 years, Bergevin needs to be fired.
