You are right, Slavia won in overtime and Slovan did beat Lugano.

CSKA Moskva – HC SLOVAN Bratislava 2:3pp (0:0, 2:1, 0:1 - 0:1)

Góly: 9. Prochorkin, 33. Da Costa (Radulov) – 39. Bartovič (Netík), 43. Hudáček, 64. Hudáček.

Roster:
HC SLOVAN Bratislava: Backlund– Baranka, Sersen, Vondrka, Nedorost, Nagy – Sigalet, Štajnoch, Bartovič, Bližňák, Murley – Mojžíš, Mihálik, Hudáček, Surový, Netík – Brejčák, Luža, White, Šťastný, Lunter - Jeglič.

Finally nice to see at least a little bit mixed-up line up from head coach Čada, that guy is absolutely unflexible with his lines and D pairs...

Jokerit vs. Sibir

http://www.livearena.com/Content/Index/21653

Edit. Riku Hextallenius, someref could have thrown him out there, got only 2 min.

Edit. 1-2 after 2nd period. Moses scored for Jokerit. Thuresson and Koskiranta for Sibir. Sibir is forechecking well and that creates problems to Jokerit defense. Not very good game and pretty even. Both teams have trained hard for sure.

Edit. Thuresson and Lajunen fights...draw...no major punches.

Edit. Todd makes it 2-2

Edit. Sibir wins in OT with a PP goal.

I think Jokerit had trouble in physical play against Sibir especially in their own end. But Jokerit was missing Gunderson, Jaakola and Väänänen. Jaakola and Väänänen should be their best defensive duo on backline. Defense should not be a problem for this team once they get a full line up playing.

Offense on the other hand did not impress me in this game. They miss speed and gamebreaking skills. Only Aaltonen (who was sleeping tonight) has that type of skills, and Omark as well, but he played too fancy with the puck tonight.

EDIT:

Harju pretty much sucked. I think Tomi Mäki deserves a roster spot before him.

Offense was still missing elite grinders who can play too and has some speed too.

Yes, Huhtala and Pöysti were missing. Huhtala played in the World Championships last season.

Well, they only play in NLB, so the score is not very surprising.

Watching Ak Bars - Magnitka now which is probably going to be the first pre-season match I watch from start to finish but I have to say, do Ak Bars ever seem lost on this adapted rink. Their breakouts are terrible which was kind of expected against Magnitka who do forecheck, unlike the rest of the league. But also, defensively, neutral zone is non-existent now, Magnitka basically gains the zone entry at will, gap between D and goal is god-awful. There was an episode where Kosov went 1 on 4 through neutral zone, dumped the puck in and retrieved it with ease and space to operate since 4 Bars players were basically standing on their blue line in one line.

Anyway, long story short, this hurts to watch so far from any kind of tactical perspective. I really hope KHL coaches are better than that and most of them prepare their teams better or at least it won't take long for them to grasp things to do and don't on these rinks. Teams who were smart enough to get at least a few right-haded Ds will have such an advantage too, especially in the early stages of the season.

And they fittingly lose 3-1. Makes me start rethinking that 1st spot in EC standings I predicted them.

There's a good chance, that absolute majority of teams will struggle with the new rules, so I wouldn't look too much in a single exhibition game.
