Also, that's sad news about Robin Williams. Sucks that his depression got the better of him.

Very sad day indeed. The guy was off his rocker, but in an intelligent and thought provoking way. RIP.

Actually, since it's fitting.

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
The arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

This is a rare celebrity passing that I'm actually saddened by (John Candy was another). Loved his movies and stand up.

RIP Popeye.

the Robin Williams thing is really hard to swallow.

I've never, ever felt this affected by a celebrity death. Robin Williams was a such a great person. Obama's release perfectly nailed it, IMO:

Quote:
Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin’s family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.

He inspired me to name my first born daughter "Zelda". I always loved that name for a special girl and when I learned about him calling her daughter Zelda because of the games, I knew I'm going to do it.

I know I'm gonna start to ****ing cry next time I see "Good Will Hunting" when they are sitting on that park bench and he finally reveals his depressions because of his dead wife.

Perfect choice. I loved dead poets society and Walt Whitman is a favorite of mine.

My dog peed all over my bed last night and I was up until 230 doing laundry. Fun times. Get to see TMNT with the man tonight though

I thought I was alone in this. I have never felt awful about a celebrity's death before, but I am really having trouble with Robin Williams' passing.

He was brilliant. He was one of the best at everything performance related - as a mime, television actor, stand-up comedian, film actor, game-show contestant, he competed with the best.

He brought pathos to comedy and humour to drama. Watch almost every performance of his with a critical eye and the viewer should be amazed at the depth of his acting.

For me, the mark of a great actor or great performance is the ability of the actor to make the viewer forget the performer and believe in the character. With that in mind, re-watch Hook, Moscow on the Hudson, The Birdcage, Insomnia or many other of his greatest roles. Robin Williams capability of delving so deep that he truly became the character is matched by very few other contemporary actors.

I am in a deep funk of melancholia today - I can't believe how deeply his death struck me.

A reminder to our family of HFBoards posters - if you're prone to bouts of depression, please seek help. Reach out to someone who cares, call a hotline, talk to your physician, but please don't resort to such an extreme measure.

One of my all time favourite movies is Aladdin and it was because of Genie. I don't even have Aladdin on dvd. Now I'm going to have to find this. You would think Disney would let it come out of the vault because of Robin's passing. I also have to find Mrs. Doubtfire on dvd too. He touched so many lives and I'm deeply affected by his death too. He was an incredibly funny man and it sucks.

If you are struggling or think you are struggling from depression, anxiety, or any other mental health issue talk to your doctor. There is a great website called "Mood Gym" by an Australian group of physicians which uses cognitive therapy to help change the way you think about everyday occurrences so that you can prevent future situations - best part is that it is free. So if anyone here is struggling with mental health issues I would highly recommend checking that site out.

You can see by the outpouring on all social media that Robin Williams was a very, very beloved man. His talent was exceptional, and his giving spirit was incredible.

Depression and anxiety are so prevalent in performance arts. So many people I know in radio are affected by it, as in television, comedy, actors, musicians. I'm not sure why it is, but it's shocking just how many 'clowns' are actually suffering from it.

Teens are also afflicted by this at a terrifying rate but the worst part about it is we as society just think they are 'brooding teens' or that they are whiners, and to suck it up. It's depression, and anxiety, and as a sufferer of it my whole adult life, I know what it's like.

If anyone on here needs to talk, or needs someone to listen, or needs advice about this, PM me any time. Don't suffer alone, and don't be ashamed. You aren't broken, you are human.

I LOVE video games GJF, but to me this is just more lipstick on a pig. I bought NHL 94 through 09 but I stopped there. I got tired of the same thing over and over with a couple new bells and whistles.

I might install the demo but if it doesn't wow me, I won't bother buying it. I'd rather save up for an XB1 and get ready to play "The Division".

Well since you made me chuckle:

You may have seen this but my friend showed it to me last night. There was this Vine that was so terrible that it went viral. It was just this British girl trying to be creative but it was awful:

https://t.co/hoZZtecQjM

It got revined so many times and got so many views that people started having fun with it. This is my favorite one. I can't stop watching it
