Sorry if this is a silly question but does this mean all 200 + games on their schedule will actually be broadcast in french and have their own crews? Even U.S v.s U.S games?. Or will they carry the english feed and just do french commentary for pre/post games and intermissions.

New channel ---> must be terrible, right? I mean, they come up with new crews and you're already tearing the channel down.

Will be commented in french. Yes even U.S. vs U.S. games. It's a french network, it cannot broadcast in english unless there are subtitles, which is impossible (to my knowledge?!) during a live broadcast.

Gotta say I'm impressed with the schedule compared to what RDS had been doing.

So if I'm at the Jets game in November v.s St Louis, I will actually see a TVA sports banner up in the press box at MTS Centre? lol This is pretty big then. The press boxes around the NHL are about to get really cramped. Extra cameras for 275 games (assuming they will bring in their own cameras.) and press accommodations around the league venues.

I bet there will be some people down south amused to see a french broadcast team cover a lightning game at MSG.

I'm not saying this would be a bad thing. On the contrary, more cameras/media can only help when it comes to things like video review and whatnot. Also shows the world how much the french in Canada love not just their habs but hockey in general.

They may take an English feed and have a couple of guys in a studio (elsewhere) commentating the game in French.

AIUI, this is how HNIC does the Punjabi 'cast.

When we got RDS up to a couple of years ago, that is what they did with Premier League soccer, World Cup of Rugby, and plenty of other sports taking place outside of Canada. (BTW, the play-by-play person was often a woman. It took me a little while to get used to her calling rugby, but she was good enough at it.)

So I would assume that they will usually (or almost always) be doing exactly that.

Yeah, just like RDS stand for "Reste Dans le Studio" (Stay in the studio) TVA Sport will do the same thing.

Two guys, not necessarily that competent to start with, will have to describe an Hockey game while watching it on TV. Yes, it is as bad as it sound... but when there's nothing else on TV.

But quite frankly, with the schedule they released yesterday, do they still really need the Nordiques?

Seriously, i do not give a damn **** about the commentator. I will just watch the good games. I would even be willing to pay to watch hockey with only the sounds of the amphitheater.

I haven't seen the schedule, but I'm thinking they'd prefer a Nordiques game over a random Tuesday night Carolina vs. Nashville tilt.

For reference, this is the schedule for October (will not post other months as it is long enough already) :

The least attrative game, to me, is the Edmonton vs Tampa one. So no, you will not see Carolina vs Nashville tilts.

I like the idea of the fans picking the monday night matchups they want to see through a vote. I also like that we won't have to listen to the Gaston Therrien/Normand Flynn's of the world anymore.

nhl.com has already updated their site to show which games are covered on TVA Sports/2. I checked the October and March schedules to see how many games are already covered on a Rogers national English broadcast channel (Sportsnet, HNIC, City, etc.) Of the 58 games listed as on TVA Sports during those months, 23 (or about 40%) were not already available in Canada. So out of the 275 games on TVA Sports/2, that works out to about 109 extra games or about 4 games a week. (That doesn't include the fan-picked games.)

Pretty impressive amount of games, and not just habs games. I love it.

Interesting to see how they won't show any hockey on TVA sports 2, while the Canadiens will play on TVA sports.

I just like the way montrealers assume that nothing else matter when the Canadiens play. Well, mister TVA, I'll be watching the Sens on Sportsnet.

Hard to believe the next generation will not be growing up with the best commentators in both languages not calling the important games. Will be a huge loss for the game without Pierre Houde and Chris Cuthbert's voices not being heard come playoff time.

No offense to Felix Seguin (actually yes offense lol), but he's no commentator, this tv deal has really screwed up so much it's a shame.

2 things:

1: It may be something they simply aren't allowed to do per the terms of the contract. Don't recall RDS 2 showing many, if any other NHL games, during the time frames of regular season Habs games the last few seasons. There may have been cases where they picked up a 9 PM or 9:30 PM game while the Habs game started at 7 PM or 7:30 PM though.

2: If they are allowed, they may figure it's not worth it since those games will be on nationally in English anyway as we are talking about Saturday night broadcasts.

I would rather go with 3: They presume that economically it would be stupid to show another game on TVA Sports 2 while 90% of the francophone audience want to see the Canadiens anyway. It just that, for the other 10% who doesn't like the Canadiens, it just can not go unnoticed. It's why we hate the Canadiens, the presumption by montreal media that they are the only team in the league... what am I saying, the only team in the world that matter.

On February 20 2011, RDS cut the end of the Daytona 500 to show... the Canadiens Pre-game! The freaking pre-game!

Sportsnet doesn't have Senators's regional rights anymore. TSN does.
