Should the Canucks add another player?

Doubt through free agency but trade is always an option.

2nd line may be:

Burrows-Bonino-Kassian

I'm OK with that, especially if Kassian takes another step forward this year.

Of course there's no guarantee that Vrbata sticks with the Twins 5 on 5 either. They'll certainly be on the PP together as Vrbata slots in where Kesler used to but 5 on 5 who knows how it works out. It could be Burrows, Vrbata or Kassain on the top line.

To answer the original question, I think the Canucks are done but I could see them throwing out a couple veteran camp invites.

Canucks don't need defense and if you wanna dump his contract it'll cost you, you're not dumping it for free.

No I don't think the Canucks need another guy. I think next season or the season after is where things start changing.

So this season I see the roster like:

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Kassian - Bonino - Vrbata
Higgins - Vey - Hansen
Matthias - Richardson - Dorsett

Next season:

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Kassian - Horvat - Vrbata
Shinkaruk - Bonino - Jensen
Higgins - Richardson - Hansen

Horvat will have veteran support and Bonino plays well with young guys. Bonino did it in Anaheim with Smith-Pelly and Etem. (He scored on mixed lines anyways) Maybe the Canucks can move one of Higgins or Hansen for a pick and let Dorsett play or him and Hansen switch depending on the opponent and needs of the game.

EDIT:

I would actually trade Vrbata at the trade deadline in his 2nd year and just put whoever and then let Virtanen take over after that season. I believe Virtanen will be ready when Vrbata's contract is up. Vrbata could bring in some picks. The Canucks need to draft as much as they can and do it smart too.

If only we had youth ready to take over the team, unfortunately we dont outside horvat and shinkaruk and those are big ifs. Very little agreement if they are ready for the nhl. Over the next few years hopefully they can, but thats also why vrbata was given 2 years and the stop gaps are necessary.

Outside kassian and maybe corrado/jensen (and some feel they should be back in the ahl) we dont have the youth ready.

Sbisa + 4th for Franson might be a decent deal actually

They should try to pick up Michael Stone from Arizona hes a big, young, pmd, right hand shot he's basically Chris Tanev with more offensive upside would fit perfectly
Hamhuis-Tanev
Edler-Stone
Stanton/Sbisa-Bieksa

Yes they should; they should go after Whitney or maybe Setoguchi

No Canucks bias here. Even before the Kesler deal I wouldn't do Sbisa / Franson straight up, let alone ADD a 4th.

Sbisa for Franson / 5th is more like it.

The Canucks are going to have enough trouble finding a balanced roster without relegating a lot of the old guard to the fourth line and/or having many prospects competing in AHL limbo. Adding another player will make it harder. Of course, injuries change things though.

Bieksa is definitely not 3rd pairing, and Arizona likes Stone, and has quite a bit of value at least for the Canucks

Canucks claim to be wringing another year out of the Sedin line. If so, they need a capable supporting cast. The Sedins best years came with an option at the point. Believe it, or not, I'd add Salo.

The Canucks missed out on Ehrhoff and did not pursue Del Zotto. They seem to think Corrado is ready? I'd add Salo on a one year contract to add a dimension to the defense not seen since he left. Perhaps pairing him with Corrado in limited minutes? He'd still be an asset on the powerplay despite his advanced age and mileage.

I might be wrong but didn't the Canucks have to pick between Bieksa, Ehrhoff or Salo? I know it was Bieksa and Ehrhoff but I think Salo was too. So I think it would be good to bring him back. And they did pursue MDZ he just shut them down lol

Salo got a much bigger offer than anyone expected from a Tampa team that was near the cap floor at the time if I recall correctly.
