Best of the Rest Series: Greg Johnson

Our summer hockey series is called Best of the Rest. We look at the best player in each franchise's history who is Not in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and retired for at least three years making them Hall eligible.

Here is the Predators Edition.

Cliff Ronning would be a better choice here.

or Skrastins.

Greg Johnson and the Hall, I almost fell off the bed reading that. Nice guy Hall of Fame, sure, Hockey Hall of Fame, maybe as an usher.

agreed. Ronning was significantly better and even though he played elsewhere his "career" was here.

even Dunham would have been a better choice than Johnny..(sorry Greg)

I think we're about four-five years out, minimum, before we see someone who played a significant amount of time for the Predators in the HOF.

not sure who you were thinking about, but Id say more like 10-12 years.

Kariya is eligible this coming year but I dont know if he'd be considered to have played a "significant" amount with us.

other than that Kimmo is about the only possibility and I just dont see him as a HOF'er.

I think we will have to wait and see if Weber or Rinne make it...

Kariya should count as a significant Pred, despite not being here that long. Those were our "glory days" before the real glory days actually happen.

I don't think a lot of people league-wide would realize it, but outside of Anaheim, Kariya's most productive years were easily in Nashville and he only left because of the firesale. You'd be hard-pressed to find a player with more productive seasons for us than Kariya. It's a shame we had to let him go.

Not a fan of the qualifier "So it didn’t really matter who I picked, as no one would be truly Hall of Fame worthy"

While I don't disagree, what's the point at all if you could just pick anyone and write a blog post about them? It actually just comes across as a bit insulting to the organization, in my opinion. Plus, as has been mentioned, some players were ignored.

Greg Johnson did a lot for the Predators, but I feel people forget about Mike Dunham too often.

I have never understood the infatuation some people have with Mike Dunham, the guy never was that good, and got beat out soundly by Vokoun. I was never so happy to see a guy get out of here.
