Cap dumps, who are yours and whats the value?

Seems like there are a few teams that may be near the cap ceiling, or who may want some more wiggle room to add big contracts during the year.
Instead of having people make offers for people they have no idea if they are available, how bout people put who they think on their team is expendable because of money, and the expected return (i.e a 2nd pick, a third liner, second line sniper, a top 4 defensive d man, backup goalie etc.) or what you'd be willing to sweeten the deal (i.e. Clarkson + a pick for player X or a pick)
This should make it easier to make proposals after we have a working knowledge of what teams want to give up, and get back.

The Wild don't need to dump any salary, but I imagine if someone was willing to part with a 2nd or early 3rd they would dump Brodziak as opposed to pay him 2.8 Million to play 4th line Center.

Still a solid player, but with Haula's emergence he's become somewhat an overpaid luxury.

I'd even take a 4th.

Hansen is a guy I'd be more than happy to dump for whatever pick I could get as well.

Weird thread - so all these players have negative value to the teams they're on, but those teams want positive value back for them?

I thought the purpose of cap dumps was to offer a bad contract and a sweetener to another team to get out of it.

Otherwise, these are just straight up players for sale, same as any other.

Vinny Lecavalier - a 3rd-4th rounder if the Flyers some salary (750k per year for remainder of contract would be enough)

Grossmann - is a decent defender, but we already have several Grossmanns. I wouldn't trade him for anything less than a 3rd rounder.

Umberger - IDK

Definitely want Brodz back in the Oil, but not for a 3rd at 2.8M/yr. At that salary... a 4th. If you eat $$$ you can have the 3rd.

To use an example already from the thread, Brodziak may be a luxury for Minnesota but a valuable asset to another team. Some guys just got bumped down the depth chart because other teams have more depth than others so just because a player has negative value to one team doesn't mean its true for another. Of course there are examples of players who have negative value league-wide because their overpaid for any team willing to accept them.

Travis Moen for a Gatorade bottle.
Dan Cleary for free. (Detroit will donate 10 000$ to the charity of the teams choice.)
David Moss for future considerations (Ice cleaning girls)

You must be joking.

I agree Burrows in his last years form is essentially a cap dump. Although, he gets a year to rebound before we can start referring to him as such. Injuries piled up for Burrows last year, he never got his feet under him. It was widely noted that the jaw guard he had to wear caused him immense issues.

Kind of already answered, but the point is not all cap dumps are bad players.

i.e a second line guy making 5 mil gets dropped to third line because a rookie really impresses at camp. He still has value, but the team trading him is doing it with the motivation of cap room and an asset back. Not all cap dumps are Franson+Lombardi for nothing. Some might be a player worth normally a third going for a 5th because people know the team needs room.

Scuderi - In general, probably a mid to late round draft pick. If a team is desperate for "veteran defenseman", maybe as high as a 3rd round pick.

Adams - Take him for free and you'll have my eternal gratitude.

Some Pens fans add Dupuis to this list, but IMO, until Rutherford actually adds another top six forward or two, Dupuis' not quite expendable (even if I don't want him near the top six). The other two guys on my list are.

So four guys who make peanuts and the Sharks best goalie?

The Sharks managed to get rid of their cap dumps (Stuart and Havlat).

Nope 4 guys that are absolutely pointless on the Sharks and the Sharks swiss cheese goalie.

Only guy that could be argued as not pointless is Kennedy.

Neither of the Avs cap dumps has any real value. I suppose Briere could go for a 4th rounder to a younger team needing to add salary and leadership. But unless the Avs plan to use that space somewhere, I'd rather just keep him and see how he does.

Wilson is totally worthless. His type are a dime a dozen and cheaper. Too bad. He looked like a solid 4/5 for a while.

Of course our cap dump is Pavs, I wouldn't expect anyone to pay for him, heck we would have to pay you to take him. Totally useless as a goalie.

From MTL point of view , Travis Moen is expendable with the emergence of Bournival and likely Sekac

Wouldn't trade Bourque right now , if Sekac doesn't pan out as expected our 3rd line would be the worse of the league

1. Niemi only has 1 year left on his deal so you just have to wait out the year to get rid of him

2. It's to late into the season to get a new #1 goalie, or even a very good backup goalie. Your only options are basically Brodeur or Bryzgalov. Also it would be hard to find a taker given that most teams have their 1-2 punch set and would find it hard to fit 4M into it's cap structure
