Just wondering what might be out there in the event that some of our center prospects can't cut the mustard at camp.

Not sure if Conacher counts as a center, but him.

You would have to talk to Pens fans about Gibbons, I've only seen him play a couple times.

Gibbons is better as a winger.

He's one of the fastest skaters in the league, and he's a very good penalty killer. He goes to the ugly areas and on the ice and isn't afraid to take a hit to make a play. He's very undersized, though, 5'8 and 160 pounds, and those numbers might be generous.

He plays bigger than he is, but his size and strength still give him some limitations. He'll lose board battles just by the virtue of the other player being bigger and stronger.

If things go well, I could see him being a 20-25 point scorer that doubles as a PK specialist. Maybe he hits 30 or 35 in particularly good year, or playing on a team that's very thin offensively.

He came out of college as a scorer, but worked hard at rounding out the defensive side of his game to become more of a role player when his offense didn't translate to the AHL.

He's a fun player to watch, albeit frustrating at times, watching him try to check someone and getting the worst of it or getting 5 breakaways a game that lead to nothing.

Some of them are border NHLers, some are probably just depth guys. Nothing to get too excited to be about. Trevor Smith may be available to waivers if he's eligible. He's not much of an upgrade over any of these guys by any means, but he's at least further in his development of any of these guys. Your best bet would be a trade.

Brian Gibbons - Small, very quick. Best asset is hockey sense. Easily knocked off the puck. Covers his points well enough, good stick and attention to detail. The offensive upside that he has is held back by his inability to be effective in the rink within the rink...it's just tough to find out what he brings to an NHL roster over an 82-game season because he doesn't have enough skill really to be a top-six winger and I don't think he could become an effective checker. Though, that's where he ought to focus, because he has the anticipation to stick in the league. But the Blue Jackets play that Campbell Conference style, and Gibbons doesn't really fit that mold...ultimately, he's probably a very good AHL player, but just a bit player in the NHL...

Would the Oilers pluck Sam Gagner off waivers if he / when he is waived?

I think the Coyotes will make something useful of him. They're good at reclamation projects.

I think he makes Columbus out of camp.

Maybe Peter Holland if RFA's run the risk of getting claimed that is

Boys, we've been over this. You will trade us Petry for Josh Bailey and you will like it. Fire up the fax!

I like him as well. Makes the PK dangerous with his speed. I'd rather have him as a winger which we would though. But spot duty as a 4th line centre
