anyone who has NHL Center Ice on Direct TV?

I have had one hell of a time trying to get access to center ice. first i had to convert to digital cable, as i only had analog before, and so i had to pay for the box and instillation, and the company (comcast) assured me that i would be able to get center ice if i did that. so i kept calling and trying to order it and they kept saying it wasn't available yet. then finally when they said it was available to order they said it would not be available in my area, because of not having enough bandwith. they seem really unorganized about it and i was extremely upset that i only got the box for this reason and they told me it would be available but then it was not. anyway, i have now decided to go with direct tv to get center ice, and now there is only one possible obstacle, which will be if my apartment does not face the right way to get the dish. does anyone have experience with direct tv and know if your house has to exactly face a certain way or they able to get a signal more often than not? suffice it to say if this option doesn't work either i will be bitterly disappointed, but if it does work i am liable to hug the installer just like in the commercial.

I have heard this from quite a few problem people in the States but its funny I have Direct TV so do many of my friends up here and have never had a problem. I have lived in 3 different places in the lower mainland and always had a very good signal. I was on dishnet for about a year and also had no problem with their signal but am back on direct tv now. It does have to point into a certain direction and the dishnet points to almost the same direction I believe the direct tv sattelites are located towards the south.

I can't speak for direct t.v., but when i had bell express-vu satellite dish, it had to be pointing exactly in one specific area of the sky. One day I was working on the roof of my home and accidentally hit the dish. It didn't seem like it was an issue, because I just slightly nudged the dish, but later on that day when I wanted to watch t.v.. my signal was barely coming through! I had a very difficult time trying to arrange the installers to do a service call. After a few weeks I ended up calling a cable company and got rid of the dish.

I'm sorry if this didn't help but that was my experience with a satellite company.

You just need to have a clear path to the sky. Thats it.

I used to have Directv and now I have Bell express vu and Dish. The dish is located at a position called 101. For reference Bell is located at 91 and 82, where as dish is located at 110 and 119. Golden child is correct, you do need to point it south. Here in alberta, it is more south east. Depending on where you live it may be south east or south west, but definitely south. Make sure you have a clear view of the southern sky and that your landlord will let you install the dish.
Hope that helps.

Yeah I know what Comcast is like to deal with. I had them with digital cable when I lived in Philly, I also switched from analog to digital and it was a pain to get NHL Center Ice from them but I did eventually get it and had it for a couple seasons.

I know have lived out in the sticks in North-eastern PA and have NHL CI through Direct TV, mine is pointed south but I have a pretty clear view from all directions. I would almost think they could run a line (they may not want the bother though) around the building to the Southern area and make it work that way?

I would be lost down here after moving from Alberta if I did not have NHL CI!

1. when is the schedule for it coming out? ive been checking nhl.com everyday for it, and its not up yet, which i find strange.... maybe im just looking in the wrong place

2. will the oiler PPV games be covered on centre ice? i dont really wanna pay $150 for something if im gonna then have to pay another $10 for each PPV.... especially since almost all the other games are already covered by CBC, TSN and sportsnet

My experience has been that the ppv games are included with the direct tv center ice. as for the schedule, it is very difficult to find in my opinion. tivo works well though!

Oh Direct TV are very annoying with the schedule, they usually do not put it up until days before the season starts, a week at most it seems and often will not note any changes until the last minute.

I've installed both Express-vu and Star Choice (I have Star Choice) and it definately has to have a clear view of the satellite.I'm sitting in camp right now and can see that it's facing south-east.The Star Choice I have at home, you just have to go to the PPV section Channel 299 I believe which is the hockey PPV channel.I hope this helps.

Off topic. If 2 coaxial cables have their ends cut of, how hard is it to put that metal cap on it? I would probably need special cutters or something hey?

It's not hard, if you have the right tools.

You just need to buy 2 ends, strip the wire (you can just use wire cutters for it, but a specail cutter that does coaxial cable makes it easier). You then put the ends on, and use either a specialized Hexagon crimp-tool, or you could also just use regular plyers and squeeze nice and hard. Cut the excess metal down (the metal wire inside the cable).

When I have to do it at work, it takes me like 5 minutes, if even.

I may be wrong but I think the Direct TV package and the Cdn versions are a little different, with Direct TV I would get virtually every game that was telivised so if the Oilers game was PPV in EDM as long as the game was on in the other market you would still get it. I don't know if thats true with express vu or if they black them out. I don't think any US teams have PPV games but I may be wrong.

Thanks for the reply i really appreciate it. See that's the only thing in my way to set up my 3rd and 4th receievers. I have to call in a technician otherwise. Is it a big difference if a person uses regular cables instead of RJ6 for the cables that go down to the recievers?

I used regular cable a few years ago even though they told me not to.I ran it from a splitter through my basement ceiling crimped the new ends on and installed the new plates in the wall.I probably saved mtself 8 fricken dollars in cable. Now that it burnt out after a year I can take apart all my celing and walls again and install the right stuff.Trust me get the good stuff!!!

I have direct tv in the us and it does not matter if the game is on in the other market, I got the Oiler PPV show. Also, I am pretty sure there are many us teams that have PPV.
