Wow, Don MacLean sang "American Pie" and played center for Doug MacLean in Columbus. I guess the hockey career wasn't workin out.

Veteran forward Peter Worrell has joined Wolf Pack training camp in Hartford for a tryout. He could end up with the Rangers. The 6-foot-7, 250-pound enforcer has played in 391 NHL games with 19 goals, 27 assists and 1,554 penalty minutes. Worrell, 28, played with Colorado in 2003-04 and for Florida in 1997-2003.
Looks like nobody in the NHL wanted Big Pete, can't say I'm not surprised.

Many Cyclone fans were not Duck fans and vice versa. And the Ducks have gone dormant for a year, waitin to affiliate with the Bluejackets, as the rumor has been.

Correct - we went from having 2 minor league teams to 0. Losing the affiliation with Florida and going back to the ECHL hurt the Cyclones and building/traffic/parking restrictions really hurt the Ducks. In the end I think that both teams also canabalised each other's attendance.

Cyclones are dormant, but figured to be movin away from town. They play, from what I'm told, a more hockey friendly building but with much worse surroundings. Just compare the Miami Arena to the ODC. The Arena was more hockey friendly with its acoustics and intimacy, but the neighborhood and the parking were atrocious.

The Panthers and the Cyclones went their seperate ways long before the death of the IHL.

I know that but when 75% of your team salary is coming from Florida and then 100% is up to you - it creates a huge financial drain. Combined with the fact that you don't own the building and it's #1 tennant for a long time was Xavier University Men's Basketball. Your rent is too high, you don't get percentage of concession or parking and your facilities suck. Then when you lose your IHL league and caliber players and go to the ECHL you don't have the same product. Therefore you reduce ticket prices to draw in fans which causes more of a drain on an already over extended budget. Finally a second team comes into town ...

You could drive 45 minutes up 75 this way and watch the Dayton Bombers. I'm planning on attending opening night Oct. 22.

As I hear it, they didn't advertise for ****. Speakin of which, I know that the Panthers are all over 93 Rock and The Buzz 103.1 down here in Florida. Just about every time either station does a station identification, they mention the Panthers.

Blackburn Retires

TSN is reporting that Danny Blackburn is retiring due to nerve damage in his left shoulder. He is 22-years-old. How sad.

Berard

I am watching the Blue Skirts v Blackhawks game on Fox Sports Ohio and they just interviewed Bryan Berard. His eye still looks all jacked up. It's amazing that he's able to see and to play in the NHL.

Yeah, i'm watching too! I was shocked they were showing a pre-season game, looks like the Blueskirts might lose......I hope their forum doesn't break down into a boo-hoo fest like ours.

Looks like Washington acquired Jeff Friesen from New Jersey for a conditional pick in 2006.

Actually, it has more to do with his questionable knee(s) and the fact he's either been/still attending rehab for alcohol/drug abuse. Hopefully it works out for the big guy...we all know he doesn't need anymore off ice issues/problems.

The Rangers, who I believe still have an affiliation with Hartford, are lacking in the toughness department so don't be surprised if Big Pete gets called up...especially against the Panthers since he and Cairns (a former Ranger) have a bit of a rivalry. Laters.
