Lindsay was pretty rotten. Color commentators are always biased, but he's just irrational IMO.

The Blue Jackets had a second color guy between the glass (Jody Shelley) and he did a pretty good job, it's an interesting dynamic, I wonder how often they'll do it.

One great thing about Potvin's return to the Panthers booth is that he is a regular guest on Sirius XM. Perhaps he will help the Cats gain credibility in the Canadian market!

"along with providing a second analyst on-ice perspective for select games." was in the official announcement.

I'd guess that they'll try it early on and if it works well, Billy just leaves like a minute before the period ends so that he can make it in time up to the studio to join Goldfarb.

I was never the biggest Potvin fan (especially during Panthers-Islanders games), but there is no doubt that he brings weight to the position.

I'm glad they are keeping Billy around - he has been a good soldier and has really grown. He was actually pretty good this past season.

Goldie who is usually active on Twitter hasn't tweeted anything about Potvin being back.

This is obviously not a popular opinion apparently, but I don't see what the appeal for Potvin is other than nostalgia. I was relieved when he left because it was a move that had to be made. I really hope he is a different broadcaster this time around.

Why? I felt like he was one of us, especially when he'd get genuinely peeved when the refs screwed us.

i think there are very few in the broadcast business who can spit out so much random junk as lindsay did, and i think it was very important for us since we've been terrible for so long. hearing the colour guy breaking down every mistake when they're done every single minute isn't much fun, but i still show off with my slurpee knowledge at random ocassions

Vodka Tonic back in the booth is more entertaining than Lindsay.

I'm not familiar with Denis, but I genuinely enjoyed listening to Goldie and Billy. I'll miss them as a team - hope Billy still has a good level of involvement.

Goldfarb was terrible for the first few weeks, probably because he was too nervous and not used to the spotlight. He was a decent between the periods host, and as far as the fake smiles stuff goes, that's what the host is supposed to do. It wouldn't be any different if Allison was still doing it.
Nothing you can say will sway my opinion of the kid. I work in broadcasting and he does a lot of things they teach you early on not to do. Sure he was nervous and stuttered a lot in the first month, but he's a pretty crap host. I don't understand the criticism of Billy but people defending Goldfart. The kid is weak sauce. Don't be soft on him because he's young. There's a lot better people for that position than him.

Ditto. In a program of 50-55 kids I could find better than Goldfart. I know talk is cheap, but doing colour/interviews myself I know on SOME level what goes into a decent broadcast game.

The only reason he left was that Lindsay was much much cheaper option

One thing I gotta mention I'll miss about Lindsay. He was genuinely happy when we actually won. He loves this team

Definetly though I don't think anyone can question Potvin on the same subject. He was/is with the org for 15 years. Billy was really great and interacting with players so I think the new role will be great for him. At same time Potvin was done pretty dirty by Yormark so it seems in a way more atonement for the sins of the org. Which is a welcome change.

Thanks for renting us Uncle Denis for a couple years. We loved him in Ottawa and he will be sorely missed. I honestly did not like him at first, but once I understood his style he was absolutely the best.

It's been a long time since I've posted on these boards, not really anything to be excited about in in a while in my opinion. But thrilled to have Denis back, he was always great and was instant credibility. It's a shame that he can't get that lead position with the Isles he deserves. Amazing and disappointing as was stated earlier, that in an offseason in which a lot took place, the best acquisitions in the eyes of many were a backup goalie and an announcer. Some things just don't change.

Happy to have Potvin back feels like he is one of us. I hate speaking negatively about people but Goldfarb really should be replaced. I had to change the channel for every home game intermission this year which is not something I normally do. He seems like a nice kid but just don't like his style would much rather see Lindsey there.
