Has come off a fine season in Sweden. Very capable two-way player with good speed and an admirable work ethic. Was excellent during the World Championships, where he scored 5 points in 9 games for Sweden.

Basically a star in a minor league, while a capable role player on an NHL team.. IMO.

He can help the pk. Solid 3rd liner. Not much offense, but works hard and is not very physical but wont run or avoid getting hit, he hits and battles along the boards like an average hockey player.

I agree, a decent 3rd-4th liner. When he was with the Rangers, he was not a liability at all, quite a good defensive forward and PK'er. He has decent size and strength, but isn't physical. He can skate well, control the puck ok. In the NHL, he doesn't score much at all, but he is calm with the puck on attack.

I think you might find him better than before this season -- he really had a good year in Sweden.

I didn't know much bout this guy till I came on here and read the comments. So this is good to know. He'll maybe play alongside Drapes, and Malts.

He is a hard worker, fast, very good moves and smarts, but can't finish to save his life. Like a softer LaCouture with better dekes.

If he played a more straight forward game I could see him pot 10 goals in the NHL, even with his finishing skills. Very smart player.

At this moment I'd see both LaCouture and a healthy Rem Murray ahead of him.

I didn't mind him during his time with the Panthers.

Spent at least half the season injured or as a healthy scratch until the rest of the injuries hit Florida. Didn't really get to see a whole lot of him, much like Eric Messier. Totaled nine points in 37 games for Florida mostly on third or fourth line duty.

umm, has anyone told the wings that there's a cap now and they can't make these kinds of signings anymore?

The Wings have $3-4M left to spend. It will either go to Datsyuk (highly unlikely at this point IMO) or it will go to more of these crazy, unreasonable even, barely higher than minimum wage additions.

Seeing him miss wide open nets while with the pens was just tourture every time. Especially when he was included in the Kovalev deal.

Mikael Samuelsson? Wow, the Red Wings are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. This is a player who couldn't hold down a regular spot with the Pittsburgh Penguins or the Florida Panthers.

He's like, the only player to play with Mario and NOT produce. Even Wayne Primeau was able to do something with Lemieux.

Horrible, horrible player.

I'm a little mystified by this signing, mainly because they have a bunch of guys busting their ***** in training camp trying to make the team as a tryout, to be minimum wage 4th liners. While this is taking place, Holland goes and signs someone outside of the organization to a one-way contract without any tryout? That would kinda chap my ***, were I one of the guys trying out.

I'd rather have Dan LaCouture and I hope this move doesn't affect him being signed.

Bingo. Even Steve McKenna scored 9 goals thanks to playing with Lemieux. Samuelsson? 2. In 22 games. Pathetic.

I hate +/- as much as anyone but he was -21 in those 22 games.

I never said the guy was a super star, he was a serviceable player on a pretty poor team.

I hope not as well. I'm hoping that Dan get signed and is a regular in the Wings line up. He definitely brings the grit/toughness that we really need.

Haha, that was awesome, McKenna almost had a hat trick one game, but missed his chance, 2 goals was funny enough.
