Oh look, it's Garret pointing out semantics:

I don't think being just outside of the top 100 is overrated anyways...

30 teams and 4 D means top 4 d-men are top 120

i said top 50 but only becuase it was included with "surpassing bogosian".

I believe he will definitly surpass bogosian.

I don't know if he'll be top 50 but i'd guess as PS said he'll have some numbers that denote him top 50, but saying whether or not he truly is will be tricky. He'll be close in either regard. I would be happy with top 60 (as that would be a "first pairing" dman)

Also rating is a bit subjective.....how is Trouba rated? Does everyone agree, or is he actually rated differently by allot of people?

If everyone rated him differently but all agreed he rated #50 (or whatever) I think that is a valid rating.

Beast mode all season

Didn't Trouba's michigan coach say he thought Trouba was the best D man he had ever seen?

Personally, I'll be a bit disappointed (although not super surprised) if he isn't a legit #3 D-man this season.

Trouba is good. I think he has a chance to be a top 50 D this season, if he stays healthy and is used wisely by Maurice.

Just to whet everyone's appetite...

Wow... That really is a good highlight reel!

Our future top four...

Morrissey - Trouba
Enstom - Bogo

...may be amongst the best in the league.

And if Morrissey tracks like Trouba did, we could have a top pair in a couple of years comprised of a 20 and 21 year old! Ridiculous!!!

You got to read the hype in this thread -- and its almost all from non-Wpg fans! Funniest thing is it was started by a guy who watched Trouba in that exhibition loss to Edmonton the other night (where we all thought he had a bad game) and from that he now believes Trouba is by far the best young defenseman out there!! But interesting to see how many fanbases really are enamored with his talent.

Yes, thats a concern. Even after ramming his own head into the boards and nearly killing himself, he did it 2 or 3 more times last year! Sometimes had to wonder what he was thinking. I think his cockiness/arrogance gets him in trouble sometimes even though it can be a desirable trait.

I am still hopeful that JT can be a Norris candidate type D............but only time will tell.

My thoughts:

Ahead of Karlsson at the same age. Better defensively and not quite as good offensively.

He'll be known as a top 20 dman by end of this season.

I predict:

70 games, 15 goals, 35 assists, 50 points, +15 on a non-playoff (but almost playoff) team.

If he is able to do this at age 20 he will soon be among the elites in the game.

I voted top 75-50, mostly because I am concerned that he'll be paired with Stuart again and that will hold him back a bit. It's hard to be a #1 D when you are paired with a #6.

Hey Guys,

Can you give this Hawks fan a little insight into Trouba's slow start to the season? Thinking about trading for him in a fantasy league. Thanks for any info.

His D partner sucks. Trouba is playing well though.

Jets PP is 27th in the league and he's on the 2nd pairing that is lucky to get out there for 30 seconds of a 2 minute power play. Byfuglien and Enstrom are the D on PP1 and it's not unusual for them to spend the entire 2 minutes on the points.

Edit: Also, the entire team is 29th in scoring right now, so everyone's numbers are low.

Stuart is terrible at moving the puck and I've noticed teams are a lot more aggressive forechecking when he's out there (maybe it's my imagination just because forechecking is more effective and hence, noticeable when he's out). So they tend to get stuck in their own zone a lot. He's also getting far more PK than PP usage.

The Jets team shooting percentage is also around 4-5% last I checked. Roughly half the typical value. So no one is scoring, despite playing pretty well.

I suspect he'll score around a 40 point pace once the team snaps out of this scoring funk.

Grab him in a fantasy pool if you can get him for value. As stated our team scoring sucks right now and our team shooting % will improve. Trouba remains aggressive on the attack and his point totals will increase once the team scoring normalizes.

buy low if you can get him.

I wouldn't trade for him in a fantasy pool. He's a solid d - man for his age but given his usage he won't be a big point producer this season.
