Pretty much. He 'doesn't like New York' apparently. Yaroslavl is very much more his style . . .

I wouldn't be surprised to see his rights traded for a dozen donuts and him return to the NHL next season, though.

How about a double double and a dozen Tim Bits for his rights? If Yaroslavl is more his speed, I'm sure he'd like Buffalo.

Chainshot, very quietly, the Sabres don't look so terrible this year. A host of young talent in the next, balanced attack, and decent defense. Buffalo should make some noise this year.

I've course, I may not be very objective since I am a Darcy Reiger fan.

The only noise the Sabres will be making is when they walk up to the podium to select Kessel.

Uh huh

Do you even watch hockey?

I want you to make one decent argument that the Sabres are the worst team in the NHL. I'll go as far as saying they have a chance to have more points than the Leafs this year

Hmmm, I wonder if he still would have done that if he was in Ottawa. My guess is yes, because IIRC he requested a trade. I guess that deal doesn't look so bad anymore, especially since de Vries was a peice of the Heatley trade. I doubt Atlanta would have as much interest in Rachunek as they have in de Vries.

Washington will get Kessel. Book it. I think we should just get it over with and let them draft him right now, then just give Washington a "bye-season", and continue the draft with the #2 overall selection next June.

The east is going to be very, very tight. The only team that looks really bad on paper is Washington. Every other team in the conference is capable of making the playoffs.

As far as Buffalo is concerned:I'm with you. They're going to be much better than people think.

That's actually a pretty good deal for both teams. NYR get something (which would become their 1000000000th mid-level prospect) for a guy who isn't interested in playing for them, while Boston gets a decent young defender for a guy they're essentially being forced to trade. I would give the edge to NYR in that deal, because there's a chance Rachunek just doesn't come over, but if Boston could get Rachunek over it'd be a good deal for them.

With the Sabres defense and guys like Drury and Briere... I doubt it.

Every team is capable of making the playoffs regardless. The habs missed a few years ago by one win with a bunch of AHLers, the Wild had a bunch of no names, there are a lot of teams with nobodys that make it. However, you cant say teams like the Islanders, the Rangers, the Sabres, The Thrashers, The hurricanes, the Panthers and the Capitals are strong. They'll have a tough time, heck I'll add Pittsburgh too.

As a Leafs fan I'd be willing to offer more than the doughnuts on the condition that Rachunek agrees to play for the Leafs.

Do you know if he has an out clause to his contract in Russia, in case he is being traded ? Or is he gone for the year ?

He might have an out clause......but the biggest problem would be the transfer fee. Since the russians didn't sign the new IIHF deal they can set the transfer fee as high as they want. Most teams probably will not want to pay it.
