yuup, he seems to be struggling still to actually put the puck in the net. i think he'll turn it around, but it might mean he starts in hartford this year

cue speculation dawes or someone could get his roster spot in NY (though dawes is a LW...maybe they could flop rucinsky over to the RW)

I thought Nieminen can play right wing.

I am not too worried about Balej either although I think he will play well in the preseason and at worst will be 3rd line RW instead of 2nd line.

I don't have high hopes for him so I am not surprised he's been slipping for a bit now. I think he is very overrated because he makes highlight reel plays -- but he lacks the overall game to make. It'll also be very tough for him to be a good player since he will need to be on the top 2 lines, he doesn't fit the 3rd and 4th line roles. Even if he does become a 20-25 goal scorer I'm not sure it will be enough production to make it as a RW on a competitve team.

how about Staal? great to see. Sauer was said to look very good at rookie camp. Nice draft for us, good for the future....."feed the future"

I thought although he struggled for part of last year, he made improvements in his all around game. He will never be great defensively but he seemed to be getting better. He is just such an offensive threat and does have highlight capability. Hopefully this year he can score with consistency, but I honestly expect him to be in NY.

Is that the before Hlavac (who scored 19 and 28 goals in his 1st two seasons) or the Hlavac since then?

I've said it before, I'll say it again. He needs to stop trying to keep trying to make all his goals look pretty.

I think he plays with the puck too much, and I don't think he should start in NY this season.

Balej is a guy you can watch and say he's got a future in the league. I agree with the poster above, he's too much of a showoff but he's got the skill and is at a level already that will put and keep him in the league.
