"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Dan Snyder. Dan was a teammate, a friend to all of us. We fell a tremendous amount of pain as an organization and extend our deepest sympathies to his family."
The Thrashers website has now been updated, including a link to the message board there where you can post a message of sympathy for Dan Snyders family.(of course the message board is down right now but feel free to try later)
Dan Snyder was one of those guys who simple defied the odds and made it to the NHL.
The first time Snyder got called up to Atlanta, I thought to myself "there is no way this guy is going to make it. He's not that big nor especially fast"
A year later I watched him play for the Chicago Wolves and he really opened my eyes. He was gritty, nasty and smart with the puck. I came back from watching him play in the AHL Finals and I said that this guy should make the Thrashers next year.
After a back injury set him back at the start of of 2002-03 season, he finally came up and stuck with the team, playing with great composure and standing up for teammates. He was one of those people who made because he simply worked harder and smarter than the people he competed against.
My condolences. As a Flames and Thrashers fan in Calgary. It's very sad. And being a Calgarian and knowing there are many in this city close to the Heatley family. It's going to be a VERY hard road ahead for all of them. Being responsible for one's death is almost as tough as the family who has lost their son.
Dany Heatley is a good guy who made a major mistake. It could happen to any of us in that situation. Don't be too judgemental. As the repercutions facing Heatley will be more then enough on him. He has to deal with the loss of Snyder his friend/teammate and possibly his career for the rest of his life.
