Hal Gill?

Rumor from Spectors saying that we might be interested?

RUMOURS FROM THE OTTAWA SUN.

Bruce Garrioch reports the following:

- The Ottawa Senators made a one-year, $1.5 million contract offer to Eric Lindros but "the Big E" turned it down in favour of signing with the Leafs.

Spector's Note: To which I'm sure Sens fans are probably breathing a sigh of relief.

- There's rumours the Boston Bruins are shopping defenceman Hal Gill in hopes of freeing up payroll space to re-sign holdout blueliner Nick Boynton. Garrioch claims "the Leafs, Rangers, Kings, Avalanche and Canucks" may have interest in Gill.

Spector's Note: The Leafs and Canucks have limited cap space to absorb Gill's $1.596 million contract.

- The Senators may still try to bring in defenceman Jason York, who rejected a tryout offer from them several weeks ago.

Besides being the Incredible Hulk.....what do you guys think? And if so, do you think that puts a question mark on the signing of Norton?

Gill - upgrade over Norton.......

makes all of our over stock of players come to a good use via trade.

I like Norton, but Gill is much better defensively.

From NHLPA

Division: Northeast Division
Shoots: Left
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 250
Birth Date: 4/6/1975
Birth Country: United States, CONCORD
Year Drafted: 1993
Round Drafted: 8
Overall Choice: 207
2005/06 Compensation: $1,596,000.00

If they need to fill a defensive hole, send Corvo and comp pick for Gill.

Gill's lack of mobility may be an issue in the new NHL. hat said, as a Bruins fan, I'd take a deal with a cheaper 3rd-pair defenseman(Corvo?) and a decent draft pick.

I think the reason the Gill rumors are showing up is because Andrew Alberts has really played great in camp and he's very similar to Gill in body size, just makes a third of the money and is a lot more mobile.

Mobility is exactly what I was thinking when it came to Gill. His size speaks for itself. When he gets a hold of you great......but the PAC (div) is loaded with speed, and I definitely question his. Witt is a bit smaller and makes the same money, so i'd rather see the Kings make a move for him.

agreed. and isn't Petiot about the same size as Gill? AND he's a much better skater and passer, from what i've seen.

If gills lack of mobility is a problem, then Nortons is greater.

Doubt it would be Corvo, he had "legal issues" in Boston.....

Why, because of name and reputation? As of right now, i'm pleasantly surprised with Norton's game. Even though it's very early, it seems like he's worked on skating issues and seems to have a better first step.
I don't question the upgrade though, and Gill would be an upgrade. But i'd still rather have Witt.

I like to watch 3 teams, The Kings, Dallas (Bill Guerin is the bomb) and Boston.

While Gill is a big immobile guy, IMO he skates much better than Norton. Ill also agree that Norton looks better this year than last.

Lets face it, Norton is a NHL journeyman. Hal Gill will make a team where ever he goes which is why he has a 1.6 million dollar contract.

And honestly I dont think this trade will ever happen.

Norton's versatility has been a plus, but we won't be asking him to play forward anymore so he's back to a D only guy.

If that's the case than Gill is an intriguing idea, that big body could block alot of shots and block a goalies view if he could get down the ice fast enough.

if bruce garrioch reported it, i wouldn't put much stock in it at all, in ottawa he reported radek bonk was gonna be traded about 15-20 times before he actually was in

i wouldn't put much into that rumour

Update from the east coast:

NESN (Red Sox owned sports network that covers the Bruins) has been reporting that Gill "might" be on the block during the Red Sox broadcast tonight...They are going to do a piece on it after the Sox game, if I'm awake I'll try to get a report on here...

As a Bruins fan it wouldn't bother me in the least if they moved Gill. Hell, I'd actually break out a good cigar. As a Kings fan, I'd be really bummed if they acquired him. As Bingo and I say when we talk about soft players, "he's Hal Gill tough"
