What are these media guys thinking? Did they expect that they would be coming to an agreement right off the bat. The salary cap is the central issue for these whole negotiations. The owners are going to be asking for it throughout the entire process, and the players will be shooting it down. The more frequent they speak, the more likely some mutual ground may be found.

If the TSN article is accurate, nothing positive resulted from the meeting. The main point of contention after the face-to-face is whether or not "formal" is a proper adjective to describe the meeting. It harkens back to the Vietnam "peace talks" where months were spent arguing the proper shape of the table. Negotiations centered around non-issues are a bad sign. It would be encouraging if the participants left the meeting talking about the merits of salary caps, luxury taxes, or free agency.
