GDT: Avs/Wings 9/27/05, 7pm MST

This game be ugly...very ugly.

Two reasons.

One:

Two:

Brad May makes his Avalanche Pepsi Center debut...

I'm betting May goes out of his way to throw down with one of the Wings. I imagine it'll be either Chelios, Shanahan, or LaCouture, depending on who's dressed. Still, it won't be enjoyable to hear him being booed. I know Avs fans are kind of split on this, but I just don't like it. No matter what he's done in the past, he's wearing the team sweater now, for better or worse. I won't cheer him, but I won't boo him either.

Apart from that, there'll be a preseason game to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing how well we stack up against the Wings with more than just our B-squad on the ice. Sakic is expected to play, and I imagine Blake will as well.

Let's see if we can get that blasted shootout going!!!

More on tonight's game:

Turgeon will also make his debut along with May. Also some discussion of line combos and potential cuts.

I have a poll idea...who will be booed more tonight, Brad May or random Red Wings player?

I won't be able to see the game tonight on tv If someone as a tv tuner and could rip the game it would be awesome. I hope Wolski plays well tonight and that we win the shootout for once !

Since McCarty isn't there anymore more my money is on May. He's got to go after Shanny or Chelios, LaCouture is too anonymous and Maltby is a pacisifist.

I don't believe there is TV coverage of tonight's game anywhere--in Colorado, Detroit, or anywhere else.

Tanguay will be playing with Sakic during the season, yes?

More than likely.

Tonight it looks like the lines might be...

Wolski-Sakic-Brunette
Konowalchuk-Turgeon-Tanguay

I read the article detailing the first line, I'm assuming the second line then.

I've noticed coaches don't often place Tanguay on RW, even though I've seen him and Hejduk line up on opposite wings on the F/O. You guys think he can play the right side? It kind of makes his passing game a little more difficult, and he seems to be more of a playmaker than a scorer.

For goal scorers, playing on your off-wing is sometimes preferred as your shooting angle is closer to the goalie and you can aim at the far corner easier.

For playmakers, playing on your proper handed side is much more beneficial, as it allows you to get more power on your passes as opposed to trying to send the puck across ice on a bad angle with no power behind it.

I'd leave Alex Tanguay at LW, personally.

Whoops...I guess Svatos is playing with FiFi and Kono...

Detroit's got a young lineup out there. And the Avs can't seem to get the puck away from them. C'mon, guys!

May putting out an effort whenever he gets out, gets a smattering of boos AND cheers.

Now multiple fights breaking out at the very end of the first period.

Edit: Mike Haynes now referring to them more as skirmishes... not sure if any were officially fights.

Any update on Kronwall? What type of hit was it? Clean or questionable?

No. No word.

What's this? 3-on-3? Don't see that too often...

Hinote and Lacoture just fought over the issue. Haynes said it was clean.

Detroit announcers have yet to see the replay, as they say the in house camera has not shown a replay on the big screen of the hit.

Detroit announcers also said Hinote held his own, but Lac was T'ing off on him at the end and then tackled him.

Haynes said it was clean. Obviously we can't actually see it. All we can offer objectively is that there was no penalty on the play.

This has been a preseason with very few fights league-wide, it has seemed. But this game is beginning to become fight-filled. Lappy getting into one now.

Lappy just fought with MacDonnell. Sounded 1 sided, MacDonnel is AHL fodder for Detroit, and isnt even close to being tough....

...in other words, i dont have a clue what he was thinking, but i fully expect Lilja to join in on the fun in this game. Though the only one who i think would take him on the avs is May [similar players, fighting wise].

Wings Press Guy told Our announcers that its a leg injury and he wont return.

Pre-season tho that means nothing. YOu get a hang nail and they will keep you out.

If "leg injury" is accurate, it isn't a head shot.

May challenging Elmore?

BRUNO!!!

Not so sure. I heard they had to carry him off the ice and he broke his leg 2 years ago.
