Trade Proposal:

(Ryder) for (Hamhuis or Weber)

Nashville has a surplus of good young defence but is a bit short on legit scorers. Ryder gets a young sniper who recorded 26 goals as a rookie. If not enough, MTL can add a secondary prospect.

Montreal needs to add depth and youth to its blueline.

I figure Suter is off limits while Parent and Klein wouldn`t be good enough return for last season`s calder trophy runner-up.

I like Ryder, but we have enough wings...too many to give up Hamhuis or Weber. I'd do a Klein+(Shishkanov?), but at this point Hammer and Weber are probably just as off limits as Suter is.

Not that I would move any of our centers right now.... but if you guys are *still* lacking depth at center, would any of Ribeiro or Plekanec be enough to pry Hamhuis or Weber from your hands? Just for argument`s sake. Also, who is more untouchable to you guys of the 2? Hanhuis or Weber?

Hamhuis because of talent, Weber because of need.

Has a Habs Fan I'd do that in a hearthbeat... but would probably have to forget Plekanec being enough so Rib for any of the two????

how about kevin klein for chris higgins? klein's had an awesome camp and could probably take some call up games this year before being totally ready next year.

IMO, if we're going to go for a center, we need go for a sure-fire top 2-line center. We've got enough question marks in Robitaille, Legwand, Perrault, Beech, etc.

higgins is still pretty much a "prospect," though...whose been very good in the AHL. it's a pretty even trade, i think.

Higgins is our most NHL ready prospect, can play any forward position and will start the year as a checker. If he can pitch in offensively (eventually) like he did in the AHL then he will end up on a scoring line sooner or later. He grew up a Habs fan. Gainey would not trade him 2 seasons ago at the deadline for the likes of Lang, O`neil or Kovalev. I don`t see why he`d trade him for Klein.

If we wanted Klein, Plekanec should be enough. But I wouldn`t move Plekanec for a D who may not crack the top 4. If need be, it would have to be for Weber or Hamhuis. But we would need a partner to dance.

Plekanec isn't going to get you a top 4-man, though...

Plekanec has led our respectable AHL team in scoring 2 straight years, was MVP of last year's all-star game, has been named 1st star of each of his last 2 NHL pre-season games (incl. tonight) and is a lock to make a very deep (at fwd.) Habs team right now. When Koivu, Ribeiro or Bonk gets injured, he will be a very suitable replacement. With both Ribs and Saks free agents this summer (amongst others) and the impending lowering cap value, Plekanec is looking more and more like a solid scoring line center next year while being a more that capable penalty killer.

If Plekanec can't land us a young top 4 D, I am more than happy to hold on to him.

Then, this is the moment where Bob Gainey must say: "No thanks, David."
