The following players currently make up the Falcons’ roster: forwards (14) Erik Westrum, Kiel McLeod, Chris Ferraro, Frantisek Lukes, Gary Shuchuk, Peter Ferraro, Mike Stutzel, Jason Jaspers, Fredrik Sjostrom, Darren McLachlan, Martin Podlesak, Ladislav Kouba, Frank Banham, and Trevor Gillies, defensemen (6) Nikos Tselios, Igor Knyazev, Michael Schutte, Jeremiah McCarthy, Mike Wilson, and Goran Bezina, goaltenders (2) David LeNeveu and Jean-Marc Pelletier.
In the interviews I have seen with McSorley he has always stressed that the players have to be defensively aware and to avoid defensive breakdowns. Now I agree that defense wins you championships but defensive teams can still have different approaches to the game. So many of the Coyotes prospects are said to "have to work on their skating". This to me is very worrying since speed is perhaps the single most important aspect of hockey. Í'd rather have a team that is twice as fast as the opponent than a team that is twice as strong. Compare the approach of Minnesota (Lemaire) to our approach.
Still the habit of winning is a great habit to have (and it is a habit as it has much to do with psychology and the mental side of the game). I definitely agree with management there. But I'm not sure I agree with their vision what the team will look like.
