Future considerations can not involve NHL players. I had occasion to look up the rules in the CBA back in the days many here all thought we were getting our choice of a list of players from Edmonton in the Bill Guerin deal.
Usually future considerations result in some sort of pick consideration at the draft. Sometimes it can be more like using another team's protection list. I think it can involve team property not currently in the NHL but I am not sure about that.
I would guess we are getting a pick based on how many games Shields plays. If Louongo was hurt and Shields got into 40 or 50 games as the starter it wouldnt shock me if we got a 3rd or 4th rounder for him... if he plays more like the 25-30 games I am expecting I would guess we get a 5th or 6th round pick based on the current trade market for guys making over a million dollars who arent core to their teams.
If we did eat alot of the Shields deal maybe the pick will be better than I am thinking but no matter how much we ate I can not believe we would ever get better then a 3rd rounder based on the situation in the trade market this year.
Come trade deadline there will be alot more dumping going on. Even if we dont like the return we get for Shields now, it will benefit us later if we are in position to add a few million for a playoff run.
I hope we will be in that position and that ownership/management will be willing to make the move.
Until then I say it again that I like the makeup of the team for this season.
Go Bruins
