Bob (Los Angeles): Hi Jeremy. As a big Kings fan, I'm a little hesitant about Roman Chechmanek taking over as our No. 1 goalie. What do you think he will give the Kings in the regular season, and more importantly, the playoffs? Having seen what happened in Philly, I guess I just need some reassurance that he can be THE man in a new environment. Best of luck this season! Although I also bleed Leaf blue (transplanted Torontonian), I've always been a big fan of yours! You always speak your mind and tell it like it is. Keep it up! Thanks for taking my question.
Jeremy Roenick: Thank you very much, Bob. Roman will be great during the season and then he will want to go back to Checkoslovakia once the regular season is over. But I can guarentee him for 32 games.

So, I guess JR isn't the guys biggest fan?
I think he meant to say 82 games instead of 32, but you get the point.
Given Roenick's playoff performances as a Flyer (or perhaps lack thereof is a better description), maybe he should be wondering where he was wanting to go after the regular season is over. The 18th green would be a good place to start looking.

Exactly. This is why I see Philly having problems this year. Every year it is someone elses problem, first it was the coaching, then it was the goaltender. What Philly needs to do is look in the mirror, and from the sounds of it JR hasn't done that yet.

Good thing too, otherwise how would you tear Roenick away from the mirror?
One time Cechmanek went upstairs to tell Bobby Clarke that the Flyers players were tanking some of their games on purpose just to get the coach fired (the one before Hitchcock) and when the players found out that Cechmanek did that they started aiming for his head with pucks at their next game day practice and since then he's had a very cold relationship with the rest of the players on that Flyers squad......it was best for him to change teams and start off fresh somewhere else.
Wounderful point. Roenick is one of the leaders on the Flyers team. That being said, lack of heart and abundence of egos is a big reason why the Flyers fold sometime after April 1.

Has Roenick been good in the playoffs as a Flyer ???
No, he hasn't but he has had extenuating circumstances, unlike Cechmanek.
Year #1. Roenick tore his ACL with 10 games to go in the season. He only returned because it was the playoffs, he was playing on one leg.
Year #2. Hitch matched him up against Sundin, and Roenick outscored Sundin. He tore his tricep muscle last in the Toronto series and couldn't shoot the puck after that.
Yes, the Flyers need Roenick to be btter come playoff time.
The first Ottawa loss, Cechmanek was not to blame whatsoever. This past postseason, Cechmanek gave up far too many weak goals, and was a major factor in the Flyers eventual defeat.
It was certainly a dumb comment for Roenick to make, absolutely no upside for him, but I will say that if the NHL had more players like Roenick, Hull, Holik etc. it would make the game more marketable.
Also for those that think his teammates don't like him because of how outspoken he is, you couldn't be more wrong. The other players on the team love him for it. He takes the heat off of them.
Players like Desjardins, Gagne, etc. that are not comfortable in the spotlight can now stay in the backround as they prefer.
