German talent for the 2006 NHL Entry Draft?

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/colum...09_143542_6448

Quote:
Germany has a pair of forwards to watch this year in slick, feisty centre Felix Schuetz and big, strong power winger Marcel Mueller.
- Schütz is playing for the QMJHL expansion team in Saint John (Sea Dogs.)

- Müller is playing for the Eisbären (Berlin Polar Bears)

- Gawlik is another talented youngster. Last year he was even considered a 1st round pick by some, but injuries prevented him for getting much playing time in Berlin.

Who are the other talented Germans?

Maxi Brandl scoared a 2 goals (according to the cannibals homepage) or even a hattrick (if you take the esbg website) in Landshut's 6-4 win in Regensburg. Good job should raise his stock.

Centralscouting rankings are out.

Schuetz not ranked in the QJHML.

German rankings

1. Marcel Mueller
2. Ostwald Elia
3. Moritz Mueller
4. Thorsten Ankert
5. Florian Ondruschka
6. David Cespiva
7. Christoph Gawlik
8. Thomas Weiszdorn
9. Constatin Braun
10. Maximilian Brandl
11. Rene Kramer
12. Corbian Holzer
13. Bruce Becker
14. Robert Bote
15. Felix Thomas

http://centralscouting.nhl.com

Is centralscounting just going after size, otherwise there is no explanation for these rankings. Gawlik and Brandl should definatly be higher. Elia Ostwalt can not even crack Lausitz's first team, which is not really good. Overaged Moritz Mueller who is notshowing anything particular should not be up there. Just my 50 cents

Gawlik appears to be having a pretty solid season thus far. Has anybody else emerged?

Midterm rankings are out and I have no idea why Gawlik is ranked so low. He's more than holding his own in the DEL, much better than anyone else on the list, and there is no question that he has more raw talent than all the other players.

european ranking:

#17 Marcel Müller
#30 Elia Ostwald
#35 Moritz Müller
#55 Thorsten Ankert
#71 Florian Ondruschka
#87 Christoph Gawlik
#94 David Cespiva
#137 Thomas Weiszdorn
#145 Constantin Braun
#146 Maximilian Brandl
#169 Korbinian Holzer

goalies:
#15 Josef Mayer

Felix Schütz is ranked 101st on the North American skater list.

If you go purely by numbers, Gawlik and Schütz would be late round picks while the two Müllers and Ostwald might go in the first two rounds, yeah right...

The Mid term rankings are out.

http://cdn.nhl.com/futures/cssrankin...uroskaters.pdf

17th: Marcel Müller (Eisbären)
30th: Elia Ostwald (Weißwasser): I think that I he's playing for the Junior squad right now
35th: Moritz Müller (Köln)
55th: Thorsten Ankert (Köln jr.)
71st: Florian Ondruschka (Weiden)
87th: Christoph Gawlik (Eisbären)
94th: David Cespiva (Heilbronn)
137th: Thomas Weiszdorn (Rosenheim)
145th: Constantin Braun (Eisbären jr.)
146th: Maximilian Brandl (Landshut)
169th: Korbinian Holzer (Eisbären jr.)
-----------------
101th: Felix Schütz (Saint John)

Let's hope that some of them will be selected in the draft.

Anyone have a reason why Gawlik might be ranked so low? His size?

Not this time. He didn't have any problems with injuries this season.

It should change for the final rankings, I expect him to rise quite a bit.

Gawlik's also a re-entry (he was passed over in the 2005 draft) remember. That tends to lower a player's stock.

That´s right Bugg, but in my opinion Gawlik is not in the same league Sturm and Hecht were at the same age, so i don´t expect any GM to go that crazy about Gawlik (now and in the past).

Yes, he's very small and I don't know if he has enough strength or even offensive ability to translate his skills at a higher level. Very good skater, though.

He's a long-term project, and with the new CBA, they will not be drafted high, if at all- especially from Europe.

He does have the skill and the ability, i can say that for sure. I´ve been watching him for some years, from the Juniors (DNL) to the DEL and work ethic, skill, ability to use the skill - no problem, but his stature is his main weakness.
Looks like the obvious 1st/2nd line player who does have enough energy to fill out a 3rd line role in the DEL, but i doubt that he´s either good enough to play in on a 1st/2nd line in the NHL or 'grind' in a 3rd line in the NHL.

Felix Schütz makes the all rookie team in the QMJHL.

http://www.lhjmq.qc.ca/lang_en/index..._nouvelle=1064

Quote:
All Rookie Team: Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, defensemen Ivan Vishnevskiy of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Andrew Bodnarchuck of the Halifax Mooseheads, left-winger Félix Schutz of the Saint John Sea Dogs, center Angelo Esposito of the Quebec Remparts and right winger Claude Giroux of the Gatineau Olympiques.
He's is some good company here.

Final rankings are out.

Schütz wasn't ranked at all, if I'm not mistaken. I can't find him on the NA-list so it looks like he dropped out of the rankings...

Here are the Germans from the European list:

#42 Marcel Müller
#58 Moritz Müller
#61 Elia Ostwald
#66 Christoph Gawlik
#67 Thorsten Ankert
#111 Florian Ondruschka
#117 Simon Danner
#132 Constantin Braun
#133 Maximilian Brandl
#156 David Cespiva

Gawlik, Braun and Brandl rose compared to the last ranking, Danner ist new on the list, the rest dropped.

there is no way that the two Mueller boys or the Ostwald kid will get drafted in the first two rounds of the draft maybe they are 6th or 7th rounders.

Felix Schütz is the only one the canadian press really sees as a second or third round choice. He played in the Q last year with an expanison franchise and is expected to have an even bigger impact with the Sea Dogs next season.

I know that they won't be drafted high, hence the "yeah right..."
If you would have done the draft by combining the two lists at the time of the midterm-rankings, then those three guys would be 2nd to 3rd round picks. That was purely based on draft-stats and had nothing to do with my expectations for them.

It's quite funny that Schütz, who made the QMJHL-Allrookie team, fell out of the CSB-rankings. How did he drop 100 places in the last three months of the season, even when he was playing quite well and led his team in scoring?

Schuetz is ranked on the NA skaters list (because he plays in the QMJHL). I believe he is 67th or so.
