Buffalo-Toronto Trade in the Running?

http://spectorshockey.tripod.com/default.html

Supposedly he has a 'reliable' source.

Quote:
My thanks to "Speedy A" for the following: "A local radio station in Guelph ( Sorry can't remember the exact Radio Station it was AM) has stated a trade between Buffalo and Toronto could be very soon to happening. The trade would involve:

Toronto Recieving: Goaltender Mika Noronen

Buffalo Recieving: Defenseman Ken Klee

Take it for what it's worth. The guy talking seemed so sure that the trade was going to happen. He said he got it from an NHL Source but I don't know.

I don't see it happening though because Toronto would be a mess on
Goaltending. Tellqvist,Rask,Aubin. Even though Noronen(26 yrs) would be
great as a replacement for Belfour it would waste this years DP Tuurka
Rask(18), and it will give Aubin(28) and Tellqvist(27) that there going no where in the organization. For Buffalo it makes sense with the recent
aquiring of that Goalie. And there need to move a goalie.
I personally think the Sabres should NOT do this trade. Getting Ken Klee who is 34 years old is a waste. Why not trade Noronen + Pyatt/Kotalik/Pominville/etc for a younger Defenseman who is farm eligible without having to clear waivers and can step up for the Sabres within a year hopefully. We have 8 defenseman as it is. Watching the opener, the D wasnt that bad. Sure we can improve. We dont need to trade Noronen for that crap. I'd hold on to 3 goalies for a mojority of the year than get Klee. Any takers on who the Sabres should go for in a younger D-man?

That wouldn't help the Leafs at all.

Yea but hopefully Buffalo doesn't fall into that category. My reaction if the Sabres traded for Ken Klee:

Stupid move on the Leafs move as our defensive depth is weak at best anyways, and Buffalo could probably get better return than a 34 year olf, soon-to-be UFA, second pairing D-man (I view him as a #4, though I'm sure that will be up for debate).

Buffalo is carrying 8 NHL defensemen right now... i doubt they trade for another one unless he's a prospect and eligible to be sent down.

Leafs could use a quality backup that is/would be ready to step in as a starter in a year or two, but to trade one of their top 4 dmen for one does more damage than good. Goalies like Noronen generally don't hold a lot of value, and usually end up being traded for a pick anyway.

I would assume that they would be more likely to make such a move toward sthe trade deadline when its more clear which goalies will be avialable next season, and whether or not Belfour is healthy/competitive enough to play in his option year.

Klee is an underrated dman. I hope he doesn't wind up in Buffalo, because I expect Buffalo and the Isles to battle for a playoff spot.

i could see Klee coming to Buffalo in a deal that looks more like this.

Noronen and Jillson for Klee and a 2nd

I doubt that it's real, Guelph radio station getting wind of a trade before a Toronto station? unlikely.

If the Leafs can find a way to get rid of Tellqvist I'd give that heavy consideration.

Same, I suppose we could place him on Waivers and see what happens.

This is stupid.

And who exactly is this credible source in Guelph? Do they have a radio station? Is it some guy with a 500 watt transmitter in his Mom's basement?

Perhaps "Credible Source" should be interpreted as "guy who waited on hold during the live call-in portion of a show"....

This rumor is about what we have come to expect from Spectors.....

Agreed. I've been speaking purely hypothetically. I hope no-one took this one seriously.

I wouldn't mind having Noronen backing up Belfour but for Klee? I don't do this deal. Klee is very much needed as we have little depth on defense. A mid round pick is what I would expect to go Buffalo's way.

it is a great deal if the NHL allows the Leafs to dress 2 goalies at the same time. Otherwise, moronic unless it is a preamble to another trade.

The Sabres are pretty comitted to a youth movement, right? I just don't see why they'd want a 34-year-old with little upside. If the Leafs are trying to open up a spot for Carlo Colaiacovo, trading Klee isn't the worst idea in the world.

This does not qualify as a legitimate trade rumor
