Welcome to the Jovo-NoNo Rating!!! Hopefully, this will become the Jovo-Cop Rating one day. I would love nothing more!
This thread will follow the play of Ed Jovanovski, and assign him a rating based on his on-ice play... good AND bad. For good plays, he gets a plus point. For bad plays, he gets a minus point. The plus/minus points range from 1 to 5. The better the play, the higher his plus point (up to +5). The worse the play, the lower his minus point (down to -5). The rating will be mostly subjective, based on my evaluation of his play. However, I will endeavour to describe each play accurately, so my rating can be scrutinized.
WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PROVE?
Ed Jovanovski is a god in Vancouver. Everyone loves him. I used to as well. But after watching him closely over the past couple years, I've come to a conclusion. Ed Jovanovski does more harm to the Canucks than good. Sure, he makes a brilliant play once in a while, or throws a crushing body check. But most of the time, he is badly out of position, taking stupid penalties or coughing up the puck in his own zone. But whenever I try to explain how bad he is, all I hear is "Jovo-Cop is Awesome!" So, that's why I'm doing this. To prove that he's not!
WILL YOU EAT YOUR WORDS IF YOU'RE WRONG?
Yes!!! I hope beyond all hope that I will be wrong. Maybe the "new NHL" will benefit Jovanovski and make him a Norris Trophy candidate. If he maintains a "plus" rating in this thread over the season, I will GLADLY eat my words and declare Jovanovski a GREAT defenceman. But until then, he will be under my watchful eye!
ARE YOU GOING TO RATE HIM FOR EVERY GAME?
No. Unfortunately I will miss some games. And I can't rate him for untelevised away games. And who knows, maybe I'll just get tired and give up. But for now, I'm having fun.
Got any more questions? I'll gladly answer them.

Shifts that scored an "even" rating are not listed, unless he got a minus AND a plus rating on the same shift to equal 0.
if you are someone who declares himself critical of 55 how does he get a +1 for last night? Wasnt it him who let Ballard cruise in all alone for PHX first goal?
It sure was!!! He got a -4 for that play. The +1 Rating was for ALL his shifts combined. But... a GREAT player (like Jovanovski is declared to be), should not be a +1 player. He should be atleast +6 or +10 each game. A mediocre player should be +1.
