GDT: San Jose @ Nashville (Game 1) 7:00 CST

man have i been waiting a long time to start this game day thread..

just a few observations pre game..

..SJ will be tough, not exactly the team you'd pick to kick things off,no accident they had the best record in the league in preseason
..nabokov,you have to get the guy when you have scoring chances, gives up very few softies
..SJ had the lowest number of penalties of any of the 30 teams in the preseason games..shows they are ready and willing to play a skating game, and have adapted to the rule changes better than most
..this should be a wide open, run and shoot game tonight because of that.. this game might well be the best example of what we can expect in the "new" nhl..i expect to see the kariya-legwand-erat line flying tonight
..god knows,it'll probably still come down to who plays the best special team game tonight anyway..we need to be extra sharp on the pk and stick a couple of pp goals on the board to win this one i'm guessing
..as of tonight at 7 oclock, Paul Kariya will officially be a predator..still hard to fathom
..shootouts still worry me after the preseason...vokoun worries me still here, our lack of identifying exactly who our best shootout shooters are in preseason shooting still worries me..
..Glennon in the paper this morning hints that tonight's 4th line will be hordichuk-fiddler-stevenson.. don't know if he's been whispered that or not.. tonight you would think with SJ's style would be the perfect night to run a gamache out there if you hav any intention of actually playing him on the 4th line it looks like to me
..the pred's are doing the "sweater off your back" thing after tonight's game, first time it's ever been done other than after the finale
..i'm pumped... of course i've been pumped since about august

I thought Stevenson was banged up? Even a healthy Stevenson would be my 3rd choice, he really seemed to struggle with the interference calls in the preseason, I think only Upshall had more minors called on him.

I'd prefer Tootoo or Gamache.

Id prefer gamache-fiddler-tootoo. Just to see if the Admiral connection could get rolling tonight.

I'm not a Tootaholic like some, but I feel like we need him on this team. Some say that he is redundant with Hordi in the lineup, but the fact is that Hordi simply will not whip the crowd and the team into a frenzy in a matter of 15 seconds like Toots can.

one other thing .... this may be the best non-Canadian team involved opener in the league

I'm so excited, yet heartbroken. This will be the first home opener of the Preds I've ever missed. But you can bet I'll be enjoying it on Center Ice up here in the great white north.

Go Preds!

Enjoy the game everyone who gets to go.

That being said, anyone else really worried about our PP?

Sell the kid, keep the tickets....There are a few things in life that cannot be wasted, and this is one of them

This game is going to be FAST. San Jose with a healthy Sturm can be extremely deadly, and they are very smart defensively. Personally, I'm not sold on Nabokov. I think Toskala is better than he is, and it will be interesting to see if his game slips a bit with the goalie pad reduction.

Here is to hoping Mclaren doesn't take out Kariya on the first shift.

I don't believe the NHL is finally here. I have this sneaking suspicion Bettman and the NHLPA are going to take the NHL away right before it starts back up again. I don't know why, it's completely unfounded.

With that said -- GO PREDS!!!

I would prefer to see Gamache or even Tootoo on the 4th line RW slot tonight (before starting Stevenson).

Oh well, best of luck and go Preds!!!

Am I envious? Yes. Many of you get to go to the game, and many get to see it on TV. Other than Center Ice, are Preds games braoadcast locally like FSN or something? Anyway, I might log into an internet broadcast for a while otherwise it's the Rangers/Philly on OLN for me - Doc & Davidson.

...and a long wait (Oct. 14) for the Ads home opener, Gonna miss Hrkac, Gamache, Hammer, Tootoo, and Suter this season.

Where's Tony Hrkac now? Has he retired, or has he found a home somewhere else in the league?

Anyhoo...

The Preds web site lists Gamache as a center. I thought he was a wing. Am I crazy or just stupid?

Gamache can play either wing or center.
