Red Wings sign Jason Woolley.

I don't know what to think of this since they sent down Lebda, I was really looking forward to see what he can do since he played well the past 2 games, but here's the source anyways.

a predictable move for depth, Lebda (who just might be the real deal) can be called up in case of injury
i like the mammoth

I thought they would have done this during training camp, but not now. I've liked what I've seen from Lebda so far.

I'm not sure what I think either. It sounded to me like Lebda was doing a decent job and earning his spot. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'd rather give the spot to a rookie who, while he might make some mistakes, will grow from the experience. Nothing personal against Wooley, though.

So, any plans how to ease him into the lineup and get him ready for a new NHL season?
I don't mind having him, he's solid, but with no training camp and hardly any game experience in the last year I believe he will need a lot of time to play up to the standard of his last two seasons with the Wings.

I like this signing. He had 4g, 15 assist during the 2003 - 2004 season and was +19! That looks solid to me.

I'd rather had Ken Holland claim Ron Hainsey off the waiver wire than bring back Woolley. Nothing against Woolley but i'd rather have a younger guy playing the 6th dman role because in the long run it could help the team. If the Wings feel they need another vet dman later in the season then sign Woolley or trade for one. IMO this is a stupid move.

You guys are forgetting that Kronwall will be back at the most around March or early April, what will happen then?

Questioning Ken Holland? Not YOU?????

Woolley is a better NHL defensman THIS YEAR than Ron Hainsey. Thats pretty much the bottom line, if you ask me.

Then whoever is playing the worst among Woolley, Lilja and Chelios gets scratched. Of course, we could always have another major injury between then and now.

I have mixed feelings about bringing back Woolley. Just from a confidence standpoint I would rather have kept Lebda because he was playing so well... but on the other hand it would probably break his heart to stay with the club all year and then get sent down right before the playoffs to make room for Kronwall. I would feel much better if Woolley were taking Lilja's spot because he has been the weakest of the six who have played so far.

Good to have Woolley back but I liked what I saw out of Lebda so far. There's going to be some nice depth for the Wings when Kronwall comes back.

I like the Woolley signing and I was surprised at how well Lebda was playing. I really think this is going to work out well, though. I have faith in Woolley being more than solid for us once he finds his legs while Lebda, if he takes his confidence with him to GR, should be getting top line minutes down there and more responsibility. Plus, as has been pointed out, it makes the wings deeper.

In the long run we're all dead. The Wings are playing for the Stanley Cup, not the Young Player Training Cup. They will put the best players they can on the ice. Grand Rapids is for development and experience. Detroit is for W/L.

Also, you may have noticed that 29 other NHL teams didn't want Hainsey; Why should we? Even after the Kronwall injury, we're deeper on defense than most other teams.

I do think this was a good pickup. As good as Lebda was playing, Woolley is the type of player who I think will thrive with the new rules. Personally, I would have rather they brought back Woolley in the first place instead of going through the charade that was signing Andy Delmore. Woolley has good offensive skills and is much better defensively than Delmore. Then again, my dog on skates is better defensively than Delmore.
