2003-04 Eastern Conf. Standings Predictions...

I'm pretty sure that there is not an official standings predictions thread so I've decided to make one. It would be cool if someone had a copy of this thread around midseason and again when the playoffs start so that we can see who had the best gut feeling.

Here is my prediction of the Eastern Conference standings....

1. Ottawa* (1)
2. Philadelphia* (4)
3. Tampa Bay* (3)
4. Toronto (5)
5. New Jersey (2)
6. Boston (7)
7. NY Rangers (9)
8. Montreal (10)
-----------------------
9. Washington (6)
10. Buffalo (12)
11. NY Islanders (8)
12. Carolina (15)
13. Pittsburgh (14)
14. Florida (13)
15. Atlanta (11)

not exactly a fine science... but time will tell just how good my hockey sense was on this day in time.

Let's hear it!!

I see the Habs improving this year to about 83 points, but I think the east will be very tight. They'll miss a playoff spot by 2 points and we'll all try to find that one game in which they blew a lead and blame it on that. I do have some hope they can make the playoffs because other than the top 4, the east looks pretty weak and there are lots of teams with just as many question marks as us.

Well, alot of you predict the Thrashers last, so I hope for them that they'll get Ovechkin And with a work stoppage, maybe they'll get Crosby too!

Imagine what a offensive force they would be. Better than Colorado and only with DRAFTED players

1. Ottawa (Strong regualr season, but are they playoff ready)
2. New Jersey (Brodeur nough said)
3. Tampa Bay (First in a weak division)
4. Toronto (Can you say revenge)
5. Philadelphia ( Can you say rematch)
6. NY Rangers (Sather brings them back to supremity)
7. NY Islanders (Yashin will come up big along with their solid D)
8. Boston ( They will just sneak in)

9. Washington (Jagr will be traded along with Bondra and Kolzig)
10. Carolina (No goalie)
11. Montreal (Too many french canadians, and questions)
12. Pittsburgh (Not even Lemieux for half a season can help them)
13. Florida ( Too young of a team)
14. Buffalo ( Not much improvement from last year.)
15. Atlanta (Heatley and Snyder tradgedy too much to overcome.)

1st Round Playoffs

Ottawa in 6 over Boston (weak goaltending does Boston in)

Rangers in 6 over TB (TB should be there to begin with)
Toronto in 7 over Flyers (Once again Clarke fails with his goaltending)

2nd Round Playoffs

Rangers in 7 over Ottawa (Ottawa chokes to a well coached team)
Toronto in 6 over NJ ( Older NJ defence caves in as Toronto's youngsters impress)

Conference Finals

Toronto in 7 over Rangers
(Toronto has more Canadians with alot more heart then Rangers)

<Toronto in 6 over NJ ( Older NJ defence caves in as Toronto's youngsters impress)>
Youngsters? Oh you mean like 31-year old Mikeal Renberg and 29-year old Darcy Tucker. Their AVERAGE age is nearly 33 years old!!!! This ins not a reincarnation of 67's over-the-hill gang either. THose were almost all hall-of-famers and I don't consider Marchment, Tom Fitzgerald,Tie Domi and even Gary Roberts (whoop-dee-doo, won't get 500 goals, only one 50 goal season, no 100 pt. season, what kind of standards does the HOF set if he gets in?)to be hall of famers. Nieuwendyk seems to have a chance as does Sundin, but the team is old but not good enough. Honestly, you think that Nathan Perrot, Nik Antropov, Carlo Coliaccavo and Matt Stajan will be the difference in the Leafs winning the East this year? Old D of New Jersey? Well, even without Daneyko, yes. But it is still way better than the Leafs defense. You'd take Tomas Kaberle over Scott Stevens, Bryan McCabe over Brian Rafalski, Bryan Marchment over Scott Niedermayer I bet. There's no contest. Besides, the Leafs younger D is even more injury prone than the Devils older D.
My Eastern conf. prediction:
1. Ottawa
2. Philly
3. Tampa Bay
4. New Jersey
5. Toronto
6. Boston
7. NY Islanders
8. Montreal

9. Washington
10. NY Rangers
11. Florida
12. Buffalo
13. Carolina
14. Atlanta
15. Pittsburgh

1. Ottawa

- Seems like the team to beat in the East. They'd be that much better with havlat signed and ready.

2. New Jersey

- They don't have any big weaknesses and should contend again this year.

3. Tampa Bay

- Great young group of forwards and strong goaltending should see them win their division.

4. Philadelphie

- Very solid at all positions, but nevertheless Goaltending remains sort of a question mark.

5. Toronto

- Needs good performances from Belfour and their D, but they have a relatively strong group of forwards.

6. New York Rangers

- Can't underachieve for ever. The talent is there, they only need to put it all together.

7. Ny Islanders

- Goaltending is still suspect although the tandem of Dipietro and Snow showed great things during the pre-season.

8. Montreal

- Every player needs to play up to potential, especially Théodore.

---------------------------
9. Boston

- Weak D could land them out of the playoffs. Still, they have an explosive group of forwards that will keep them in the hunt till the very end.

10. Washington

- D isn't very strong or experienced aside from Gonchar and Witt, but Goaltending and offence shouldn't be much of a problem.

11. Buffalo

- Added some offence, but still not quite there yet.

12. Carolina

- Needs to avoid injuries. If they do, they could surprise.

13. Florida

- Still a few years away from contending.

14. Atlanta

- With Heatley it could've been that much better.

15. Pittsburgh

-After Mario what is there?

Rangers and TO in the conference final? Nick Kypreos, is that you?

Guess you missed last year in the playoffs when Ottawa showed they aren't chokers, Toronto showed that they don't have what it takes and have less of that nothing this year, and the Rangers...Jesus, does anyone pay any attention to how they never make the playoffs?

Besides, Toronto can't win the cup until they get a FRENCH goalie...and most of their Canadian players are crap.

The Habs aren't going to make the playoffs this year.

I'm not going to make any prediction, as I always end up being wrong & looking dumb (although I could be the reason why the Habs make the playoffs this year if I put them at the 13th position).
