Duck's Line

OC Register article says the lines would be..

LW Jason Krog, C Sergei Federov, RW Rob Niedermayer
LW Vaclav Prospal, C Steve Rucchin, RW Petr Sykora
LW Stanislav Chistov, C Samuel Pahlsson, RW Joffrey Lupul
LW Garrett Burnett, C Craig Johnson, RW Alexei Smirnov

1st D Sandis Ozolinsh and Kurt Sauer
2nd D Ruslan Salei and Todd Simpson
3rd D Niclas Havelid and Vitaly Vishnevski

I think they're still experimenting on line combos

Not a bad one to start with as it presents serious matchup problems for the defense. Do you play your top D pairing on Fedorov or on that stacked second line? Krog and Niedermayer have both been hot in the preseason. Not a bad idea to take advantage of it now.

NHL.com preview says Morrow may miss the game. Anyone else heard that?

As of Tuesday Morrow was cleared for the game. He worked out hard yesterday and said if it was not the size of a tree trunk he would play.

I'd expect him to play, but probably on the 4th line. Dallas lines will likely look like

Lehtinen-Modano-Guerin
Turgeon-Arnott-Barnes
Miettinen-Kapanen-Young
Morrow-Ott/Malhotra-DiMaio/Downey

Thats a pretty stacked line-up. Gonna be hard to match up against. The top 3 lines are a serious offensive threat, all are at least competent defensively, and the 4th line can even be a scoring threat.

somebody needs to tell Bill Guerin, Todd Simpson can fight, and you just got your ass kicked and now will spend the next 5 mins thinking about it.

no reason to fight him. It was obvious Simpson was going right for him.

Coast to coast on cruise control. Followed by a bad angle shot.

nice of Fedorov and Chistov to practice passing back and forth but there was a powerplay that was trying to get run too.....
it was almost like Fedorov was trying to get Chistov to make a shot or a decision, if that's true, it could be good to have Sergei always pushing Stanislav like that...

quite a few penalties in the 1st, I suppose this is the "current crackdown"
2 fights too, nice to see the Ducks haveing a little grit to them, now if they could only play a little better defensively

The lines are definately interesting...

Niedermayer-Fedorov-Krog (wow, who saw this coming?)
Prospal-Rucchin-Sykora

I didn't catch the bottom two, though...and they're not seeing a lot of ice time. Anyways, Dallas is much more fun...

Lehtinen-Modano-Guerin (the line everyone predicted LAST summer)
Morrow-Barnes-Arnott (Modano is being double-shifted in place of Barnes *very* often, though)
Miettinen-Kapanen-Young (Kapanen has been good on the PK, but that line is all but invisible at even strength)
Turgeon-Ott-DiMaio (Turgeon is invisible, Ott's done nothing of note yet.)

Lupul is the youngster who is really impressing me...the young guys in Dallas are dormant so far.

Well good things coming out of this period is that the Ducks are not going to be pushed around as they have guys now that can drop the gloves. Lupul has looked awesome already hitting, creating good chances and making a nice pass. Defense has looked a little shaky. Ozo had a HUGE brain fart. What was the penalty on Salei by the way?

Also wanted to add - I noticed that Niedermayer is wearing the A in Anaheim! (Fedorov has the other)

Who would have said at the beginning of last season Niedermayer would get traded to a Stanley Cup finalist and as the following season started would have established himself as one of the leaders on that team? Geez.

Yet another reason to hate Greg Gilbert.

Miettinen had a nice shift near the end of the period
Lupul has impressed me too

The bottom 6 for Anaheim are
Stanislav Chistov, Samuel Pahlsson, Joffrey Lupul
Garrett Burnett, Craig Johnson, Alexei Smirnov

but Smirnov has already seen time on Rucchin's line

Niedermayer has the A because Carney is injured

If Barney Rubble were a person and not a cartoon, he would look like Keith Carney.
