You all know I'm not a Dallas fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm watching the game off and on because I want to see Anaheim get the stuffing knocked out of them, and so far they are. They look lame. Where's Federov's mighty shooting? So far I've seen better shots in a bar, for crying out loud.
Ah Sergei, you're in for a rude awakening, you are.

Fedorov has had a good game despite one mistake on the 3rd goal. He's placed some nice passes and has been skating well in all 3 zones.
Zubov has absolutely dominated this game, and Barnes has been the second most effective player on the ice, and has been big not only on offense, but also on defense. Modano is flying out there, and I think Guerin has had a good, physical game, which is nice to see since he was so close to retirement last season.
The Stars are clearly dominating this game. Turco has actually had a great night too, handling the puck well.
The Ducks are simply being outclassed tonight. However, Lupul has looked involved, Salei has made a few good plays, and the top line of Niedermayer/Fedorov/Krog has been effective. The Ducks power play looks to be much improved.
More sloppy than flat, IMO. They're skating pretty well, getting a decent number of chances, and they seem to be involved physically, but they've just had a few too many defensive zone lapses. That and Dallas looks really crisp.

What the hell? He's been the best Duck all game...well, maybe Niedermayer.
Ducks looked like crap tonight but its only the first game of the season. Defense needs to clamp down, too many mistakes tonight. Stars looked very good tonight and dominated the Ducks tonight. Turco played very well while Giguere looked ok, not having any defensive help did him in. He didnt look good but then again he usually starts out slow. On to Nashville where hopefully they'll have a better effort.
Oates and Kariya made the players they played with better, while Federov can do this, and didn't tonight. Prospal showed why he was a waste of money and needs a Federov to make him better.
Sign of things to come Duck fans. Not trying to start anything, but the Ducks are not the cohesive Western Confrence Champions of last season. Arguably more talented, but far less willing to sacrifice to win.
Stars looked great playing even more open than last season... Stars are gonna be very tough to beat.
I would say the ducks lost after some meltdowns in there own end due to lack of communication. And the Stars managed to take serious advantage of it basically scoring on everyone of them.
Lupul wont remain on a checking line for long thats all i can say
If you can call a line with Chistov And Lupul a checking line be my guest.
Prospal did ok had a cple really close chances that didnt connect. Looked his normal way of getting the clutch goal, tonight they didnt come but i have no doubt they will start coming.
To sum it up what mostly made this game was defensive zon meltdowns for the Ducks and you can not afford those vs the firepower of the Star or any other team for that matter.
I expect the Ducks to rebound nicely after this game the game where closer than the score IMO

What the hell? Sergei Fedorov anchored a decent first line with Rob Niedermayer (yes, Ice Capades himself, granted revitalized on the sunny shores of Arnoldifornia) and Jason Krog. Jason Krog!
Prospal I'm not too hot on.
As for sacrificing what it takes to win...take a look at Kariya's playoff record. Look at Fedorov's. No comparison, IMO...
The big problem tonight was defense...it faltered, and Dallas had one hell of a forecheck all night. STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU BARNES!, as Rick Jeanerette would say. Modano kicked ass all night, too. Looks like the C is suiting him.
On the topic of Dallas - Steve Ott and Pierre Turgeon were two players who underwhelmed. Morrow was a better agitator tonight, and Turgeon was somewhere else.
I actually thought Fedorov looked like the best puckhandler on the ice.
There are two players that still take your breath away whenever they skate with the puck (even though they had minimal impact tonight): Modano and Fedorov.
You can recognize those guys without the numbers even. So distinctive.
BTW, I know the Ducks lost, but Fedorov is going to be an upgrade over Kariya. Bet on it.

Yeah they're among a handful of guys in the NHL who skate so beautifully, you would almost be willing to watch them do so even without a hockey game going on.
