Hadnt even thought about the size issue, not often I go with a small power forward, realized my 3rd line of power forwards are all 6'2+ 210+, no wonder they have such high ratings. My 4th line of all under 5'11 is actually doing really well with 7.5+ for each, two powerplay specialists over PPG there. GM ***** Champ thanks you

GM ***** Champ will get me every time.

Yeah I think there is some sort of patch for the size issue on EHMtheblueline. The game way overrates size, honestly one of the FEW flaws in the game in my eyes.

Yeah, get the patch that neutralizes the weight or whatever it does. Otherwise, you end up being biased towards giant players...makes the game too easy...

Do you apply the patch to your savefile, your DB or your entire game? I'm thinking about doing it but then I'd have to reinstall the game if I didn't like it haha.

I've started a new save with the roster update posted on the previous page. NHL-wise it seems like a very accurate update because halfway through the season the standings are almost identical to the IRL ones
Btw, was doing some scouting and saw one Igor Larionov, a 16 year old in the NAHL. Is that a real player? And any relation?

Anyway, I'm managing Dallas. Didn't make a lot of moves, some dead weight was traded for picks, Spezza was shipped off to Buffalo for Zadorov and Deslauriers, Hemsky was traded to TB for Filppula.

Benn-Filppula-Seguin
Cole-Eakin-Nichushkin
Roussel-Horcoff-Sceviour
Deslauriers-Fiddler-Garbutt

Goligoski-Demers
Zadorov-Klingberg
Ballard-Oleksiak

Lehtonen
Campbell

Got a decent two-way team but we're getting outshot almost every game and the only reason we're in the Top 8 atm (29-19-3) is because of Lehtonen who has been sensational so far.

I am new to this and am playing the trial version. When I go to purchase, basically says I can't because System Manager is no longer in operation. How do I continue playing. Thanks

Unfortunately the old NHL EHM 2007 hasn't been on sale for a long while now. As there were licensed leagues included, we had to stop selling the game after a certain period. So all the digital sales were discontinued as well

BTW, I did a short interview with GM Games a while back in case any of you are interested in reading it:

There is always hope. I'd really want to make another EHM some day and I've always maintained that Eastside will be back one day in some form. Maybe another hobby project one day when I have enough free time on my hands if nothing else materializes ? So here's to hoping

I checked with Manimal about this. Although contracts have been added and new players created with basic ratings, the Swedish players have not been re-rated in some time. Manimal recently asked Systemfel if he'd share his Swedish ratings but I don't think we've heard back yet. Again, we're in the unfortunate position of not having enough people help with the rosters and so we have to prioritise updating trades/etc and adding prospects over updating ratings (although several leagues have recently been re-rated such as the NHL and Canadian major juniors).

It's called the Realism Patch and it is applied to databases by using my Attribute Editor: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums...t=9088#p135927

There are some interesting graphs here showing how it compares with vanilla EHM: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums...136025#p136025

Unfortunately it cannot be applied to saved games because attributes in saved games are somehow encoded and I haven't figured it out yet. However, it is possible to edit Height and Strength ratings in saved games using Excel/LibreOffice and the EHM Updater: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums...157635#p157635

I downloaded the game back in 2009, but have gone through three computers since, and haven't re-downloaded. To make matters worse, the computer upon which it was downloaded has a broken screen, so I can no longer use it solely as an old database/EHM (and EFM) comp.

Is it possible for me to re-download if I already had purchased?

Yes you can download it here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums...hp?f=82&t=9526

Existing licences, such as yours, still work.

Wait... are you the creator of EHM? Thank you for the last 5+ years of my gaming life. I've never had a game that I come back to so often and so furiously. I will spend evenings just on EHM STILL after all these years. No game has EVER had this kind of hold on me.

Okay good to know. Just wasn't sure what it applied to. Glad it's the DB so if I want I can play with other DBs and have it stock if I want. Thank you!

Of course, I always try to mimic real life myself, so your ideas make sense. But are prospect less likely to pan out or reach lower ceilings if they are in the USHL (18-19), ECAC or weaker NCAA program (20-22) then the ECHL (23-24) for instance...as opposed to the OHL, 2x Memorial Cup participant, World Junior participant, AHL then NHL...?

Will that - on the whole - produce a better player because of that? Or will just better players be in that situation...?
Riz,

Are you comfortable answering this or able to answer this? Does level of competition matter for prospect development?

Sorry, I don't want to drag you into a Q&A or anything, but it's one of the questions I've never really been able to figure out.

I'd play the hell out of a revamped version of the original, freeware EHM. I still go back to that game from time to time, mostly at work . Although it would be weird not building my team around Mika "Vezina" Noronen.

I'll echo what others have said, thanks for the great games, I can't think of any game series I've consistently gone back and dropped so many hours into over the span of 12 years.

Yes, the level of competition can have an effect on the development of young players.

I've actually just checked in my db where all the players have 200 PA and checked from which leagues the Star players were from. I was pleasantly surprised:
8 of them were from different USA's leagues mainly HE, 12 were from the CHL, 1 was from hungary/austria, 5 from swedish leagues, 4 from slovaks leagues, 1 from finnish leagues, 3 czech, 3 russians, 1 french, 1 swiss and 1 german.

You can clearly see how the big leagues are better, usa with 8, canada with 12 and the big euro ones. However there's still hope with the small countries like french, austria, swiss so it's still possible to get a star player in mediocre leagues!

This is cool but I wanted more information so I checked all of the Superb players:
58 of them are from the CHL (Canada really dominates this), 21 from USA college, 10 from czech, 6 from slovak, 5 from finnish, 1 from Netherland, 13 from russians, 13 from swedish, 5 from austria (this really surprised me), 1 from Belarus, 1 from swiss, 2 from germans, 1 from norway, 1 from Ukraine, 1 from Slovenia

Here we see a more in-depth percentage of players from high level leagues. Of course the CHL dominates but USA, Sweden, Russia and Czech put up a decent amount of good players. There's also a few exceptions like the Netherlands one or the Ukraine but I really can't explain the Austrians ones. This is one of the lowest level league of the game (if not the lowest) and they managed to develop a Star player and 5 Superb players. All of them stayed in Austria or the Hungarian juniors before being signed by an NHL team so the level of competition isn't a factor here, they probably also have low level training facilities compared to other leagues.

I also found a very interesting case. This spanish guy played for a Junior C league then became a free agent due to not being signed and got 44 games in his first year with the Devils. He's now a Superb reputation player. He's pretty young so he probably developed a lot with the Devils but it's still a very strange case.

http://i.imgur.com/fuHLEim.png http://i.imgur.com/BnGczyU.jpg

Conclusion: It's hard to say if the level of competition is a factor to take into consideration. It's safe to say that most CHL players had a better original CA than those in the europeans leagues or even the USA leagues, that explains the domination of the CHL leagues. Same goes for Russia, Sweden and Czech Republic. There's a lot of exceptions though so I think those guys are supposed to dominate their respective leagues in the original DB so they had higher CA and lower PA, but since I increased everyone's PA they became quality prospects. In the original DB you will not find so many good players in Austria or any other small countries like France or Netherlands, those are caused by my 200 PA DB but you can see that they develop pretty well even while being in a weak league.

Edit: I have another question, does coaches even influence your team? Also is it better to pick up better attributes coach or a coach that actually wins trophy? I have a HC with weak attributes but he won the AHL cup like 3-4 times in a row and he keeps briging my team to the playoff even if my goalie sucks and we usually end up in 2nd or 3rd round.

Played 3 seasons with Dallas so far and lost to Chicago three times in the playoffs First in round 1, then round 2, and now in the CF. Lehtonen has been amazing every season, but every single time we play the Hawks he gets lit up, I don't get it.

Going into S4 with this lineup:

Benn-Giroux-Seguin
Nichushkin-Filppula-O'Reilly
Roussel-Vermette-Sceviour
Jones*-Ott-Brouwer

Zadorov-Carlson
Muzzin-Polák
Werenski**-Oleksiak

Lehtonen
Campbell

*1st round pick in 2016
**1st round pick in 2015

One thing I didn't understand btw. In my first season I had John Klingberg who played very well as a rookie. His contract was up though but I had made him an offer during the season so he was to became a RFA. After the July 1st deadline, when he indeed became a RFA, I waited a few days to offer him a contract but suddenly, I think it was July 4 or 5, I got a message my rights to him were expired and he was a UFA He signed with Boston a couple of days later..

I've had this before too! I've never gotten this. It seems to only happen in the newer DBs to me. Or is this some rule I don't get? Maybe someone can explain.

I think I tried to explain this once before, but it may have been on EHM The Blueline. I believe it has to with experience settings on the back-end, not enough history is being filled in on certain players that were prospects but now are NHL players and the game thinks that when their current contract runs out that they are unsigned prospects. It used to be that a slew of would-be RFAs, Mikkel Boedker, Alex Pietrangelo, whoever, whoever, would be plundered depending on the database...I had brought it up once before and I think that some of the researchers did eventually figure it out, but perhaps a couple of spotty cases still exist. As I haven't noticed it quite as much with the most recent ones. But I've also played the last few seasons in Sweden, so maybe I'm just oblivious...

But my belief is that it has something to do with their history or experience when they are plucked from the "rights" portion of the team and put on the NHL roster from the previous database...

Not enough history being filled in doesn't seem to be the problem here though..
