When he's too injured to play hockey, he should be sitting in a dark room alone flogging himself. How dare he actually have a life, that dainty euro.

Anyway, I don't think he was going to make it on the Habs anyway, but I hope we continue to keep our European prospects far away from Lefebvre unless they are good enough to make the NHL jump quickly like DLR.

So what does this mean for the habs? We still own his rights? He can develop over in sweden and still come play for us when he's ready the way Emelin did yes?

He perceived the city of Hamilton as the South Bronx at 3AM in the 1970s. He quit on the team. He *****ed all the time.

The guy has character issues. I don't care what he does for the rest of his career, I don't expect it to be much.

Potential doesn't pay the bills.

Should have rescinded his contract the first time he bailed or traded him.

He also never stepped up in Hamilton. His play was far less than inspired. I assumed the injury was self-inflicted to just get him out and save some face but it looks like the Nygren fanboys are still alive and well.

Looks like DLR wasn't able to completely dissipate the Swedish prospect curse this team has had for some years now. The prospect enthusiast in me wish we could have had a better sample to determine what his true potential was but injuries and the whole ''Hamiltongate'' ruined that sadly. Oh well, at least it opens an additional spot on the blue line for the farm team which is crowded as it is.

We're not in Hamilton anymore. And there's no mugging in Sweden? I hope we tried to move him prior to his injury.

Hamilton is in the top 5 in canada for the crime rate. Not saying this is a good excuse but it doesn't look like a nice city from the outside (never went there).

If we still have his rights it's no big deal he'll learn more far from Lefebvre

They have to give him his QO, if they do, then they will own his NHL rights till June 30th, 2019. If they don't he becomes a UFA.

The only way he's a UFA is if the Habs already told him they won't be giving him his QO.

agreed, really liked him and thought he would help our terrible PP one day. Tough loss as our D prospects are looking really thin right now.

He is unless the Habs already told him they won't give him his QO, and I do assume he's already been in contact with the Habs. So we'll find out within the next several weeks if he gets his QO or not. I hope they do as it doesn't cost anything to keep his NHL rights, no need to let another get him for free in the future.

A good trade partner for Nygren could be Colorado, with J.Sakic & P.Roy with their eye for offensive talents on defence. Possibly work a deal for their 10th OV pick in the upcoming 2015 Entry Draft, having Nygren working with Landeskog, MacKinnon, Duchene & O'Reilly on their PP, absolutely deadly. Unless of course they need to move O'Reilly for Nygren straight up, due to Salary Cap problems still!

If any team trades for Nygren, which I don't see happening since he's barely played in a year, he would count against the 50 contract limit while playing in the SHL unless he has an out clause.

Yeah I'm sure teams were lined up to give up assets for a 24 year old 4th round pick who returned back to Sweden last year because he didn't like Hamilton and this year has barely played due to a concussion.

At most he'd have gotten a late draft pick, made more sense to just hold on and see if he could adjust to the North American game since his shot is something our PP could've used.

While obviously a very talented defenceman(Nygren won the Borge Salming Trophy emblematic of the Best Defenceman in the SHL 2-3 years ago) he 's not enamored with having to work in the AHL instead of getting a walk in spot on the Habs defence. Unlike Alexei Emelin did, despite taking into account his yrs, of KHL experience with Ak-Bars Kazan on a repeat KHL Championship team. Which other GM's are very aware I'm sure, if I know it. Talent is talent and there is always a market for great talent, despite the EGO! IMHO.

Rumor has it that his mother is in charge of sharpening the skates for the Farjestad team.

Good riddance to mommy's boy who is a quitter.
