Obviousely Alfredsson. Couple of clutch goals in two games, and is now leading the NHL in goals.

Hasek is not far behind, for the SO wins against Toronto.

Alfie. No doubt about it in my mind. The 3rd period comeback in the first game set the tone for the season so far. And 5 goals, most ice time of any forward I think. He is our best player, and has been for the last 7 years or so, and probably will remain our go to guy for years no matter how good Havlat, Spezza and Heatley become.

Many honourable mentions though.

Yeah, a bit of a no-brainer of sorts actually.

Here's my top 3:

1. Daniel Alfredsson.

-can you say, clutch goals? Captain Clutch! (or Klutchy the Klown) he's also killing penalties, playing defense, and never ever stopping when he's on the ice. he really is a machine, it's pretty astounding.

2. Dominik Hasek.

-nice to have goaltending that makes saves in key situations (honorable mention to Emery for tonight's game)

3. Jason Spezza.

-Spezza is very dangerous offensively and has brought a measure of creativity to our team that used to basically skate up and down the ice in parallel lines (albeit fast and skillfully)

Honorable Mentions:

-Martin Havlat

-gives a whole new meaning to penalty KILL!

-Dany Heatley

-dangerous whenever he touches the puck. not a brute like Hossa, much more sneaky and devious. seems to be skating into the slot whenever the puck is coming. when he gets his timing back, watch out!

Conclusion

-the stars have come out to play early in the season

I'll give the fourth Star as the unsung role player to Chris Neil. After a tough 1st game with a bad penalty he has played great on the PP and in his overall game. He has more than a PPG this season!

Basically everyone besides Pothier and Smolinski has impressed me at times.

Schaeffer has been awesome in all aspects of the game through pretty much the entire season.

Alfie for sure.

This is weird. The team hasn't really played that great in any games and yet they're 4-0.

It is possible if Alfie hadn't scored those 2 goals in the first game in the 3rd, that we would be 1-3 right now. That's why he is MVP!

My initial reaction was Hasek but as I was voting I realized I had forgotten about Alfie. I could go either way though. It's just so nice to have a goalie who is money. I stand by my vote.

Heatley. Alfredsson has at least 2 gimmes from Spezza and 1 from Heatley. Heatley is 2-2 during the SO and has sealed both of them for the Sens. I love Heatley's game - its a big change of pace to the Havlat-Hossa-Alfredsson style of play.

this is such a flippin rich team!

this team is so rich it's like Imilia Marcos' and her shoes or something. "Gee, which pair of diamond-studded heels should i wear today?"

Hasek, Heatley, Spezza, Alfie . . .

emery was the best goalie i saw outta 8 in 4 games last night.

Chara, Redden, Pothier, Phillips, Volchenkov -- is there going to be an Olympic team with that good a defense?!

they've gelled as a team, and Play as a team.
they have spirit. they have a core, a center, a focus, a purpose.

intelligent, supportive, polite, classy fan base -- rivaled in canada by only Edmonton i think.

the best goalie on the freakin planet.

these Sens are so rich they should be in the Senate!

a super-smart and experienced and fresh coach.

not one a-hole player on the whole squad.

this team has scary similarities to the Habs, Oilers and Islanders dynasty teams.

there isn't a weak link.

Agreed. I was feeling a little down about all the mental errors and defensive zone brain farts, and then I realized, we're bringing our B- game (except for goaltending) and we're still winning. Ah, it's gonna be an exciting year, folks.

Weren't two of those 'gimmes' actually give and goes. Alfie passed to Spezz while fighting off McCabe (who mysteriously lost his stick in the process ). Alfie retrieves a puck in the offensive zone, fakes a shot, passes to Heatley and then keeps position and separation so he can jump on the loose puck (yay!).

As a bit of an aside, did anyone else get the impression that Heatley fired it where he did on purpose? On the replay it looked like he put his hands up even before the puck reached Alfie's stick.

I've always wondered why more players don't do that. Fire the puck at a rebound-prone part of the goalie, with the intention of setting up the rebound. Forex, fire it low and far side on a two on one. If there's gonna be a rebound then the other guy should be in a good position for it.

The amazing thing about Heatley's shot was how quickly he released it.

He obviously aims before the puck comes and lets 'er rip as soon as it arrives.

Theodore couldn't get into position in time, a rebound resulted, and Alfie put it in.

Dany has a real goal scorer's shot.

Can you imagine how this team is going to be when they're actually playing well?

Interestingly enough, Heatley, Spezza and Alfredsson are 3 of the top 4 scorers in the league with 7 points each.

Hopefully they can keep it up.

Meanwhile, Redden is the top scoring defenceman with 5 points.

You get the feeling that this team will be a bit expensive next season?

Well, Heatley and Alfie are locked up. I think Spezza's only signed for one year though. All indications are that he's going to be up around the point a game range at least, so yeah, he'll be pricy.

I'm still holding out that Muckler has a deal in principle with Chara and Redden. If not, maybe we can change our PP a little, so Redden isn't picking up so many points.

Alfredsson by far, it's really no contest so far. I keep forgetting how much of a tank he is, and he keeps doing those plays to remind me.

If he can secure a Stanley Cup, I think you'll see his #11 hanging from the rafters in the C.C. when his done lacing them up.

It's only Ottawa.

If he stays here for the rest of his career, he may deserve it regardless, IMHO.

A SC banner may be a pretty high requirement for a retired jersey in an age with 30 teams in a league which emphasizes parity.

Any player who stays with a team for a good number of years will be a rarity I suspect.

Just to fantasize speculate a bit, what would Spezz do if we resigned Redden and Chara after Jan 1 and then looked at the remaining cap space in July and found there was only 5 million left for two point-a-game players (Havlat and Spezz). Do you think they'd agree to one-year contracts again, with the hope that next year the cap would go up and they'd get even more then?

Do you think a long playoff run (or even the Cup) would factor into his decision?

Team Captain for 10+ years has gotta factor into this as well. To me, if he does hit that milestone, then we're raising #11 into the rafters. He's such a classy guy, and (for better or for worse) his temperment seems to fit that of the city.
