Mason is playing terrible. That's at least two that shouldn't have happened. Having a good backup goalie can net a team an extra 5-7 wins a season in the right circumstances. Let's hope we don't give this one away because we are starting our backup.

agreed. this team has no interest in playing even strength. we're either the big bad PK or the flashy PP. this has been the worst period we've played all year. we've had exactly one good line tonight. if trotz is any kind of coach, he rips into this team in the intermission.
Maybe a general breathe in breathe out is in order guys... bad period does not equal bad team. They will rebound.
Oh we are a good team. But at the same time, it's normal for us to be upset at a period such as this. Phoenix is merely an average hockey team, but they look like Detroit right now. While a lot of that is their own doing through effort and hustle, a good bit of that is our overall lack of effort and intelligence. We just aren't a smart hockey team at this stage of the season.
Coach Trotz should maybe tell Kariya to stop playing defense. Every time he does, he ends up in the box. Hopefully this PK isn't as dreadful as the last one.
It's amazing how poor a lot of our faster players are with their stick. Although I think the Phoenix player embellished it a bit, it still was a penalty. Speaking of embellishing, I think this is going to get out of hand in the "new" NHL. I've noticed both our opponents and us doing it quite a bit more than usual.
Back to Kariya, at what point do you sit him down for this? If he's going to take 4 penalties a game, I'm not sure he's going to be worth it. Sit him down for a shift or two and let him think about it. He's going to have to play smart.
Haven't seen any games from NSH this year and I'm wondering whats up with Erat.
I'm guessing Kariya is taking time on the ice from him but I still expected him to produce and thought that he had a good season overseas last year. Has he missed some chances or...?
ANOTHER penalty. Who can blame us, though? We are getting OWNED in our own end. Everyone is standing still, trying to play the puck rather than the body. Disgraceful. Hopefully we can outlast this.
At the risk of stating the obvious....we're being outskated. I don't know if they're just exhausted from the back to back game, if it's the time change, all the special temas play or what....but they Coyotes are just outskating and outworking us....and we're taking stupid penalties as a result.
Granted, I'm writing this as we're watching an amazing display shorthanded attacking the net. Too bad we keep missing the net.
