I agree ... to an extent. I'm a little worried that this may turn things really ugly by tomorrow.
From all accounts, both sides are really far apart. Walsh is being a dink, even for agent standards, and I don't see him moving from his position that drastically within 24 hours. Walsh isn't in Gandler's league on my "hate list", but he's moving up there.
I have a feeling that Muckler's banking on Havlat to lay an ultimatum with Walsh, and perhaps even sign a deal on his own accord.
We'll see what happens tomorrow though. This will be interesting.
It's not like he's going to become a UFA after the next CBA? Until you get arbitration rights, you take the fair $1.9M per year for 2 years or you play at home in Euro for about 25-50% of that. Pretty straight forward IMO. It's not like the Sens offered a 10% raise on the $650 (approx) he made last year.
Can you get muckler to lay down an ultimatium for Gaborik and Dupuis while you're at it... thanks
Actually, the Gaborik and Dupuis negotiations are one of the biggest factors of why this ultimatum may not work. If Walsh backs down from Muckler, he'll lose a lot of leverage with the Wild.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will work though.

He could lose a little...but to be frank...Gaborik and Dupuis are a heck of a lot more important to the Wild than Havlat is.

When did Muckler even offer that much?
The only offer I've heard is 1 yr @ $1.2 million which is only slightly more than over the 10% tender offer as he made $960,000 last season.
It's meaningless. If Havlat comes to them at Christmas with a deal that the Sens approve of they'll sign him immediately.
If they didn't it would simply be bad business.
this is basically the only way havlat would get signed after the deadline. in all likelihood there will be no more negotiations on mucklers behalf, if havlat wants to make an offer im sure he will listen though.
I think Havlat will sign.. You have to look at the big picture and think of what you would do in his shoes. Do you play in the NHL for Ottawa and make a million bucks. Or do you play in europe and make 200k? Ottawa will not budge from the offer and have a good history of players that tried screwing us that ended up giving in.. (Yashin, Dackell, Chouinard, Rachunek)

Do you think in the end this is going to turn really, really bad for the Sens and the Wild. Think about it? Havlat is forced to take a contract or else he sits out. Don't you think if another contract negotiation comes up, he'll bolt to the next team that won't pull these stints on him?
Along with Dupuis and Gaborik. If they are forced to take contracts or be forced to sit out for the entire year, don't you think they would bolt to a team that would pay them what they wanted?
On that note, Walsh is a jack and I hope he loses all his money.
Aren't deadlines usually ultimatiums? I mean you sign by this deadline or we won't give you a new contract?
I mean if I had a deadline on October 10th for my job and my job is on the line, isn't that a little bit of an ultimatium. Get this work done by October 10th or else I'm fired?
Based on that article, I really don't understand what other options there are. You either sign or sit. Trading Havlat doesn't seem like an option for Ottawa..
There isn't any options. You can sign or you can sit. It's the ultimate ultimatium to his agent and Havlat. You can play this year or you can sit for the next two years.
that's good. The line is drawn here hopefully for the NHL. Havlat, Comrie, Gaborik wouldn't have sat in the past because teams would have been to excited to sign them. Hopefully this responsibility will spread to the other non small market GMs!
According to Bob Mackenzie on TSN this evening, The Senators have offered Havlat a 1yr $1.35 million deal and that's the one that is on the table currently, with the deadline or ultimatum or whatever you wish to call it. The Havlat camp has countered with a 1yr $1.97 million offer.
He also says that if Havlat doesnt sign, the Senators have been in serious talks with Steve Thomas and arent afraid to use the money that they would have given Havlat to sign him instead.
