Gagne and Foppa best duo?

What do you guys think after 5 games are Gagne and Forsberg the best duo in the league righ now? The way they play it seems like they have been playing together on the same line forever. The chemistry is amazing and the stats dont lie. I think Forsberg has assisted in every Gagne goal thus far.Thoughts.

so far so good, but its still very early. i'd rather have this conversation at the end of the season with similar stats to backup your question.

no doubt, Gags & Forsberg are too sweet!

As of right now I havent seen 2 players gel this quickly unless we count the 2 boys in Ottawa....Spezza and Heatley, but they at least played pre-season games together.

thats gonna be one great line, gagne finally has an elite passer...as we saw last night he can pick corners from odd angles...knuble to go into corners on the forecheck, this could be fun to watch all season

Thats no fault of that line though is it? Were either Forsberg or gagne on the ice during any penguins goal last night?

I think they are clearly the best duo in the league right now. Albeit early in the season, they look pretty dominant out there together.

Forsberg is going to make Gagne a 40 goal scorer this year (Gagne's talented, but I don't think he's capable without a guy like Forsberg). This guy is so incredible. Best player in the world.

But Spezza and Heatley rival them...

I think Gagne is capable, actually. When he played with Primeau as his centerman, when he was much younger, he hit 33. The reason for his lower totals in recent years were a combination of injuries and being placed in a defensive role on a "checking" line.

When Gagne is put in the position to be offense first, and his primary objective is scoring, he can flourish.

Gagne was on the ice on one of the pens PP goals.
Gagne had +4 and Forsberg had +3 in the game.

That'll come along later on in the season. Once the players start to get more comfortable together and get in better condition the leads will stick.

Might want to throw Allison-O'Neill in there.

Forsberg makes people around him better, thats what superstars do. Hes been playing with mediocer players on several occasions in his career (Simon to name one), but still racked up points.

You could put Forsberg together with Brashear and a bag of dirt, him and Brash would still be an amazing duo.

I knew people would say this, which is a shame because Gagne was primed for this break out. He bulked up, is playing physical, is being used offensively, and is benefitting from the new rules. Certainly Forsberg has been a big part of his success, but give the guy some credit.

Mike Knuble.

Carter didn't really work out. A little bit too much adjusting for a rookie.

man Knuble is lucky, doesn't nothing, getts Joe Thorton as a center turns into a 30 goal player, leaves boston, and gets Forseburg as a center.

Knuble is a good player and he complements star players well.

That's a valuable component of his play.

You don't always get good results throwing 3 all-stars out there together, particularly if they all like to play with the puck.

I agree with you that Gagne can hold his on, but I guess we will see how much Forsberg has contributed to his fast start WHEN forsberg gets injured.

Perhaps not on topic, but why isnt the best player in the NHL racking up more minutes on the ice, than 17-18/game? Does pete have a poor conditioning or whats up?

My guess is - As long as making the playoffs is a lock, there's no point in putting extra mileage on Forsberg. I expect his minutes to go up when the games matter.

Man, I'm sure this has been said a million times, but an Ottawa / Philly clash in the playoffs would be awesome. As scary as Forsberg and Gagne are, you gotta fear Spezza and Heatley as well, I can't wait to see them go head to head with the chips down.

It's not that he hasn't been conditioning. Forsberg has played very little hockey in the last two years. The year before he had damaged his abdominal muscle(surgery), last year he broke his wrist(surgery), had a concussion while playing for Modo, and had an infected bursa sac removed from his ankle(surgery). All in all he's getting fatigued easily so Hitch doesn't have him playing big minutes. Once he gets back into game shape we'll see his ice time go up with it accordingly.
