Sylvain Lefebvre Discussion

Simple question, do you want him back or not?

This poll is missing a "Hellz to the no!" option. Should never have been hired in the first place.

I second this opinion. We need a **** NO! or NO GOD NO! NO NOOOO! option.

I'd rather see the Randys re-hired.

The Randy's did a good job when they were in Hamilton, would gladly take them back.

Apart from Cunneyworth, who is the other Randy?

BTW, sad to see Cunneyworth hasn't had a job since he got fired from the habs. I feel like the drama likely didn't help his stock.

Edit: He did have a job, just not in coaching, my bad.

Well I don't remember who the candidates were in the first place, but at the time Lefebvre was a pretty highly touted "rising star" in the assistant coaching world, and given his background and language qualification, I think it was entirely reasonable to hire him in the first place.

But yeah, it hasn't gone as well as hoped, and the team just hasn't had the kind of success. Players need to develop in the playoffs too. It's arguable that he wasn't necessarily supplied with optimal player options at first, maybe. But also the team hasn't been particularly dynamic, and then there was the Mayer situation, and now... well now it seems to me like he has a lot to work with, and while things are going at least a little bit better, it's still a team that is closer to missing the playoffs yet again than contending. I think he has had enough time, and the ball has largely been dropped. Time to turn the page.

I voted I'd rather pick my nose.

I do wonder what the goal in Hamilton is though... somehow I don't think the goal is to have the best team possible. I don't think they give much of a **** about how the dogs are doing. I think they just want to prepare players, put them in a harsh environment with a tough coach and make it so they don't want to stay down there. Make it so that they're REALLY motivated to do everything to graduate. I think they need a coach who's a tough SOB but who works with the top brass at whatever they're trying to do. I have no clue if Lefebvre is the right guy for that.

would be the best move imo as I loved when he was in Hamilton, gave the best pre game interviews of any Dogs coach.

Guy Boucher would make a better AHL coach; and a potential remplacement to Therrien; working within the organization, he'd know all our prospects. I guess it's up to him, I hear he's happy in Europe... but he's bound to return to the NHL at some point.

This guy please.

And for the record: I don't want Guy Boucher ultra-defensive style near the team either.

Dogs had a great year under Boucher. 1st in the conference, 2nd overall in the AHL. 271 goals for and a league best 182 goals against. Granted he had DD and Subban on his team with Sanford and Desjardins in net.

People forget Sylvain Lefebvre is forced to use the same system as the Habs.

It would be the same for Boucher or Groulx and that's why they would never take the job.

That would be a good choice I think. I hear he is a really tough coach. It's good to have a tough coach in the minors. You want players to be pushed really hard and develop the right habits.

But he's probably looking for a NHL job. That said.. having the job down there would be the first step to having the job in Montreal... it would give him a pretty big opportunity... still I don't think MB would rock the boat like this.

You are getting imaginative....so the farm team is a place that you HAVE to hate so that it forces players to improve to get the hell out of there? Well if so, best coach, best city. Yet...I doubt that's what it's suppose to be.

This. When you have a future superstar it's much easier to win at that level.

Subban did have a great rookie year and spoke very highly of Boucher, but we are talking about 2nd overall in the AHL. Would love to have him back to coach Scherbak/McCarron next year.

0% to keep him. Hahahaha.

If they were doing to keep him, he would have been extended like everyone else. He gone. Good riddance.
