Berard Available

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=56412

Although I love the competition for our 6,7,8 D-man, I think even a sight-reduced Berard would be a great aquisition. Especially if we don't sign Comrie, we should have the dough there to pick up a top-4 D-man like Berard.

Thoughts ?

Cheers,
Geoff.

I agree. I am a fan of Berard and think he could fit nicely along side Brewer or Staios. My stance on the Comrie issue is to sit the lil bastage for 3 years and sign a UFA to compensate as much as possible. Not a bad idea at all.

I agree. Let's get Berard over here for a one year deal around $2 million with an option for another.

I'm really hoping to keep Comrie but who knows. They're playing hardball.

Berard on a PP could be that big puck moving D-man teams always covet. It's a gamble but that seems to be the way Lowe likes it. As somebody said on anothe post, he buys when players seem to have a low value and sells when player's are peaking (Weight, Carter, Guerin).

Go K-Lowe!!

No, NO NO NO NO. Everytime this idea gets brought up, it gets shot down by other posters. For us to sign him, we have to sign berard for MORE than 2 million or Boston automatically matches. You think Dopita was a bad risk? Berard is a worse one, especially at $2 million PLUS!

I would rather spend the money on a sure thing and put it towards signing Comrie, improve our offense than throw money after a one-eyed has-been which NO team has (as of yet) an interest in signing as a UFA right now for 2 million.

Do you think that Berard being left alone is the new unspoken rule amongst GM's as they try and get arbitration demands under control? As somebody suggested (I think it was McKay) it would be pretty easy to get Berard by offering 3 years where the first was high enought to nullify Boston's position and then pay less in the second and third year. This has definitely not been the best summer for a player to try playing hardball. Finally a hint of sanity amongst the owners.
