that the flames will have saved close to 4 million and could save more due to to rising price of the canadian dollar they could maybe use that money to add payroll possibly next season if the Candian dollar stays high

Thought it was worth metioning for something to think about

That does sound like encouraging news. I hope they bank it and use it to re-sign Iggy.

I hope they bank it and......bank it. Lord knows they'll need that extra cash when the loonie plummets once again.

Think maybe we should seek clarification on this one. The team continues to lose money. It is true that the Canadian dollar has increased versus the U.S. dollar recently. However, the $4 million "savings" means that the budgeted losses were not as high as initally projected for the last fiscal year.

Good point, how much did Calgary lose overall last year?

Whatever sum is promoted in the press, it should be taken with a grain of salt. Last month, a Wall Street Journal article came out, with the owners claiming a total loss of $300 million (U.S.). Coincidentally, this amount was remarkably similar to the total funds that they've socked away in their war chest in the event of a lockout or strike.

That's true, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the NHL broke even on the whole, but I would assume Calgary lost money to make up for teams like Minnesota that made bundles of it.
