Luoma sent down

From the Oilers official site:

The Edmonton Oilers have assigned defenceman Mikko Luoma to the Toronto Roadrunners of the American Hockey League. The move means the Oilers will open the 2003-04 season tomorrow night against the San Jose Sharks with 22 players available to play, rather than the 23-man roster permitted by NHL regulations.

I wonder if this means a move is imminent on the Comrie front?

Or that they have decided that one backup at forward is enough. With all the young guys in TO why pay them to sit here when they can play every night in the A for a tenth of the cost.

Or the Comrie situation is about to be resolved and this clears way for the resulting player to fit into the 23 man roster.

This makes things very interesting. Since when do they only go with 22 guys when they can have a Roster of 23 players. Something has to be up, IMO.

I don't see how it can mean anything else. At least that's my hopes. I hope we don't get burned on this trade.

One can only hope, the quicker this is solved the better off both parties will be. At this point I don'nt care sign or trade doesn't matter to me jut have this resolved so we can move forward without the distractions.

We've forgotten something here people...

CONGRATULATIONS to the Evil Hobbit, M.A. Bergeron, for making the team!

Who would've thought a 5'10", undrafted Dman from the Q would've come this far, this fast. He may not be up here the whole year, but I'll bet he's estatic right now. Good for him.

Geez GuyF, you can't just speculate you know. You have to many connections to be vague. Fess up!!

Luoma was in tough competition with Bergeron. M.A.B had the playoffs working in his favor aswell. Good for him. I hope he plays well.

I certainly didn't mean he has to know, he has a perfect right to speculate.

I was just asking or more likely grasping at straws considering the confidentially agreement.

I haven't heard anything concrete and if I had, I'd probably have to say that I haven't.

Does that help?

Classic double talk for a reporter or a politician.

But the move does seem to suggest some kind of move is going to happen soon.

I'm pretty sure that the Oilers started the season last year with a 22 man roster too.

Somebody might have a better memory than I do, but I'm positive that the Oil have gone extended stretches with roster spot empty. Better to pay a minor league salary and have the guy play then play a major league salary for a guy in the pressbox.

Man i look at that roster and i look at this years roster and I think we would be a better team this year with Comrie signed, and by getting rid of cleary.

Or even better yet, have the owner of your farm team pay the minor league salary and you're totally off the hook......

Having the Roadrunners picking up the tab for player salaries there might have an influence on this decision.

Has he actually boarded a plane?

Oh don't do that. I know there has been many times throughout the past few years where they weren't at the full limit, but they usually are to at least start the season (since I started paying attention 2 years ago).

Guy,

It must kill you sometimes to hold onto information. I wouldn't want you to ruin your chances of reporting the goods for us though by divulging what you do know as it happens.

Keep up the good work Guy!
