Brendan Witt to Pittsburgh Rumor

Hey Guys,
I've been watching the Bolts-Caps game tonight and right after Brandan Witt scored the Caps first goal, the commentator was talking about how Witt was unhappy with being part of the Caps rebuilding porcess and his trade demands. The immediately commentator immediately mentioned that there have been very strong indications that the Penguins were on the verge of acquiring Witt but without mentioning what the Pens would give up in return.

Have you guys heard anything regarding this?

What do you think CP would give up?
Maybe Witt can get Gonchar out of his funk....

What he should give up: draft pick. Or, I don't know, Rob Scuderi or something.

I'll let you know who the commentators are. The game is being played on the NHLNetwork but I think that its being broadcasted with the commentators from Tampa Bay, since there's a "Sun Sports" Logo on the upper right hand corner of the screen.

They also interviewed Jay Feater during the intermission and he confirmed that Tampa is desperately looking for an inexpensive #5 or 6 defenseman. I'd love to unload Paopst, so that we can bring up Whitney.

The Penguins need good defensive defensemen.

Not players like Witt.

Witt is an upgrade. Our D is very bad yes i know, but sometimes i don't think you'd be happy till we get a top four of Pronger, Foote, Blake, and Lidstrom.

I have a feeling that with ANY Nhl defensemen that becomes available on the market, that he will be linked to Pittsburgh. When you have the worst defense in the league, you will pegged as in the market for ANYONE. And the rumor will sound logical, factual or not.

Much like all of our off-season aquisitions, they come out of nowhere as C.P. devulges nothing to outsiders. So your guess is as good as anyones.

There would still be something to complain about.

i don't know what the hell this guy's talking about, i've been watching the game (2nd intermission now) and chris clark scored the caps first goal.

i'm watching the caps comcast feed and they haven't tonight talked about witt's trade status or anything about him being acquired by pittsburgh.

they've mentioned pittsburgh alot, for the inevitable ovechkin/crosby updates and since tampa played the pens last night but absolutely nothing regarding witt trade rumors.

If Witt wasn't the one to score the goal, he must have played a role in the play because they wouln't stop talking about it as soon as the Caps scored the first goal. Just because thy talked about it in the first period, it could have just been a comment refering to an old rumor... probably the one that was dated bak in August. I do not think its the type of thing they'd talk about all night... Maybe it was just a thought rather than actual fact...

The Penguins need to add 1 good dman, 1 mediocre dman and 2 checking forwards (ie a Sillinger, or someone like that).

I'm not at all familiar with the Pens but imo some team will end up giving up something of value. Maybe a 2nd, or a prospect and a 4 or something like that. Oilers are not getting good minutes out of one of their good young Dmen (Alexei Semenov) and stranger things have happened.

A team that has high expectations of this season isn't going to wait very long to stop the bleeding this year and if there are two teams in the bidding the payoff would be even better.

at least Hal Gill will clear the net out and cover the people in front of it. At least he does something. He has to be better than Melichar, Poapst, Scuderi....

You know, nobody said the Penguins would be unbeatable stalwarts on defense this season. In fact, I quite clearly recall a lot of people (including myself) saying that defense would rely on a positive attitude and require the incorporation of the entire team being defensively responsible, which hasn't happened. A successful defense goes beyond the six blueliners, and even if the Pens had one stud defensive defenseman, things wouldn't be a whole lot different.

Spector's Niinimaa rumor comes from Garroich's latest column.

I'd like to have it confirmed by a more credible source,so I'm hoping one of the isles beatwriters will either confirm or deny it.
