I like Renney - reminds me of Joe Torre a bit. So even-keel.

Poor Chris Russo is lost... "7 games is basically 1% of your season", "SI picked the Rangers 30th or 31st"..ugh

lmao yeah he was pretty much "ho-hum, ummm...let me see here..."...

as for renney, to sum it all up:

-says the team is working hard and paying attention to detail, etc...

-says weekes is still the no. 1 but the team likes lundqvist and is definitely is grooming him for the top spot down the road, just not his time right now in his opinion.

-says the new rules are allowing the skilled players to thrive and the team has guys who surely have skills...

-talked about the lundmark-for-taffe deal. likes taffe's skillset, hopes he can put it all together. jamie needed a change of scenery, basically implying he couldn't hack it in new york city.

-said he spent the lockout scouting all over the world as well as his participation in the international competition.

-mentioned he knew tortorella really well (a half-assed question from russo btw) and praised him.

-says that in his opinion, he doesn't necessarily think it would be in the best interest of a rebuilding team to trade away its younger players for "saviors" to try to win a stanley cup if it's in contention for the playoffs. he thinks it would be more beneficial for younger guys to play in the postseason and get experience rather than using them as bargaining chips.

basically that's the crux of it all. the last item was definitely the most noteworthy and it would be a very early indicator that come deadline time if this team is still in it that they would resist the temptations if renney has his way.

if anyone wants to add more who saw it, i'd appreciate it.

He wasn't sure if the SI predicted the Rangers to come in 30th or 31st. Good try though Mike...or Mad Dog..whoever said it.

Well that's good to know. I got the same impression about both of those guys, from just watching them on TV.

Mike and the Mad Dog are one of the reasons I stopped listening to WFAN and welcomed ESPN Radio. M & MD comprise one of the most pompous, know-it-all programs in the NYC area - on any station including non-sports and including Rush Limbaugh. They, just like Limbaugh, love to present their opinions as unadulterated facts. As for ESPN Radio, even though they don't talk hockey quite enough for my taste, they do it more than at WFAN and they at least do their homework when they talk to a hockey guy. They also have one of the most knowledgable hockey guys in the NYC-area media there in Don LaGreca who I love even though he's a Devils fan. Just like Scott Gomez said, "Donnie, you're the best!".

its sad that so many take them and everything they say so literally, because half the time they dont even watch the games they talk about and furthermore they talk about gambling and the lines half the day. its sad that we cant just get some objective sports personalities, but hey as long as people keep listening its never gonna change.

Where is Steve Somers when you need him!?!?!

If anybody can talk hockey on that station, it's that guy.

Amen. That guy constantly gets the shaft from that station. Maybe it's because he makes fun of M&MD.

Joe Benigno can and will talk hockey and he's a Ranger fan to boot.

Is he still doing the midnight to morning shift? I forgot about him. He's good, but think about it...the only 2 guys on that station who really know hockey are never given a decent time slot. Both Somers and Benigno are very knowledgable about multiple sports - probably much more so than M&MD, but their station gives them the shaft. ESPN should steal them both and pair them up for a late morning or early evening shift - I could live without Colin Cowherd and Jim Rome.

Yes...even though he's an Icelanders fan, I would still listen to him talk about hockey at night. Hell, I can pick him up here in Carolina on a clear night.

Woah, Woah, Woah....Stevie's ugly mug is a big Ranger fan. In fact the first time I heard the term Icelander and Mausoleum were from his mouth during the Captain Midnight days. I can remember running to the radio after games in 94 just to listen to him at midnight.

Now he's doing the 'after games' schedule pretty much from 10:30pm-1pm during the week.

..and Art. Last time I checked Joe was doing the 10am-1pm shift everyday right before those idiots in the afternoon. Not being in the NY area now, I miss hearing Joe cry about the Mets/Jets/Rangers/Knicks everyday. Talk about a cursed fan...

Beningo now does the 10 Am to 1PM shift, just before the M & MD show.

IMO, talking hockey with Francesa & Russo is like discussing babes with Carson Kressley.

WFAN's hockey coverage is pretty bad most of the day. It's sad that the stations top duo doesn't know jack about hockey even though the station is based in NYC. Sommers is okay but he doesn't have the level of hockey expertise that Mike and the Mad Dog have for baseball and football. You can tell sometimes when people call in that he knows the Rangers and a bit about the Islanders and Devils, but he's pretty lost concerning the rest of the league. It really bugs me when Mike and MD waste time on things like boxing and horse racing but can't do one decent hour on hockey. Beningo is good in the morning, too bad his partner Sid Rosenberg had to resign because he knew his hockey too.
