There are so many names I'd never choose on that list.

That would be unfair, as the 4th Canadian team wouldn't receive a medal...

For the record, just because of all the arguing in the thread a few days ago, Lindros, Allison, O'Neill, McCabe and Belfour all made it, though increasing the list to 81 prolly helped.

Cloutier on the list of goalies, as a canucks fan, blew my freaking mind.

Gretzky is trippin.

Watch Cloutier steal a stop.

He's due for a medal soon enough.

He's got a better shot than Cam Ward.

I realize this is just a list and it's a massive list at that but some of those named had me chuckling.

I'm a little amazed that Dan Hamhuis was left off of that rather substantial list (and Eric Brewer put on it?).

Otherwise...

Wow!

I think you could easily call out about 10 players off that list who have absolutely zero shot at the team.

But then again, they made the list for a reason, so we'll all have to see how things pan out.

some of it might just be courtesy... for example, i can't envision Desjardins making the team at this point in his career... Jeff Carter being on the list given the Canadian forwards floating around is a bit humorous (same for Mike Richards). four years from now maybe, not in february.

You might be surprised that Hamhuis was left off but you shouldn't be looking at Eric Brewer.

Yeah, for sure, everyone has a chance if they're on the list, but, bahahahahahahaha Marc Chouinard.

But then again, Rob Zamuner was around in 98

Absolutely. See: Eric Desjardins. Brewer is already a gold medalist, and played well in 02, I still remember his opening goal against the Swedes.

Well Chouinard amongst others caught me as a surprise. Desjardins, Staios, Joesph, Ward, Cloutier, Walz, Chuoinard etc. etc.

Boyle would be another except I saw him getting named a while ago, just because everyone and their uncle seem to think he's more than just the power-play quarterback I see in him.

With all due respect to Marc Chouinard - Zamuner was coming off a 50 point season (IIRC) with the Tampa Bay Lightning (who weren't exactly world beaters that year).
As well Zamuner was regarded as one of the better defensive fowards at the time (even though his inclusion on team was a big surprise).

I was kind of surprised Mike Fisher wasn't put on the list after playing pretty well in the WC's. I guess it's because he's been hurt early on.

wow. Everybody and their uncle made this list.

I mean Wes Walz and Marc Chouinard ?(no dis-respect to wild fans... one guy that should be on there is Dwayne Roloson!)

As a Habs fan I'm pretty happy: they have Theodore, Souray, and Ryder on there ... I'm slightly suprised that Ribiero didn't make the list though.

It just shows the dominace of Canada! They could easily ice 3 teams and all 3 would bring home Gold, Silver, and Bronze!

Another good call for goaltenders.

Come to think of it, how Ward, Joseph and Cloutier made the list over Giguere and Roloson is absolutely beyond me.

At the other end of the spectrum perhaps including the likes of Phaneuf, Ward, Richards, Carter, Bouchard, Lupul is to give them a taste of what to expect in years to come ?

I'd admit that's a stretch because they are far from established NHL players, let alone stars. As well, now that I think about, I doubt these 81 players will get to spend any sort of time together, as there isn't a camp.

how many will be cut for not being able to fit into that super tight jersey they're being forced to wear?
