Holy ****! How in the world Tucker, White, Roberts and Stillman missed in that case is beyond me.

And yes, I realise I'm going to get flak for naming Tucker, but honestly, just look at some of those names.

I was hoping he may squeeze in as well, but, the number of "grinder" positions are limited. I thought him, and Matt Cooke may have gotten a mention, but, at a certain point, you have to draw the line, and focus on guys that have some realistic shot at making the team.

They won't be able to put together a good list

81 players is nearly 1/7th of all the players currently in the NHL.

At 81, you'll see that Canada would be hard pressed to find worthy candidates that could fill the spot of a guy like Horcroff, Staois, Chouinard, etc.

Didn't Wayne joke over the weekend that they were planning to just list every Canadian playing in the NHL?

Have you seen the list disco ?

I initially mentioned having guys like Carter, Phaneuf would make sense if they were actually going to have some sort of camp.

However, it is my understanding that this list will be cut significantly before they even hit the ice.

Cooke yes, McCarty, uh can't score.

The point was not the Tucker should be on the preliminary list, but that he'd make it over some of the people mentioned and that some of the names are rediculous.

I think the theory was that if other such unworthy candidates are there, why not Tucker?

It's pretty obvious Darcy Tucker will not make team Canada. But it's equally obvious that niether will Chouinard or Horcoff

Lol i was just abotu to say what the hell is Crosby Carter and Richards on the list. They just put all three on to stroke there egos, 2010 would be a different question(although i can see somebody reasoning maybe we shoulkd put crosby on as the 13th forward for the "experience").

On that note, not 1 Islanders on the list(not that iwas expecting one to be) so i think i will be routing for Russia or the US.

The List should have been like 50 players.

I'm a little surprised that Staios got the invite over Jason Smith. Staios has not been playing well over the past few games and Smith has been a rock so far. I wouldn't expect either of the players to make the team but it's a litte odd to say the least. Nice to see Horcoff get the invite, he played well until getting hurt and he's always performed well for Canada in international events.

Chouinard surprises me, but Wes Walz doesn't. I think he would be a very reasonable addition to a team Canada squad as a role-player. I think all three of Minnesota's players were probably Lemaire suggestions.

Meh, I'm not saying that everyone on that list has a shot, far from it. It's just a way to

1) cover their bases in case they need an injury replacement right up until the start of the Olympics

2) give out recognition to some guys that they think deserve some praise

You don't need 81 people for reason number 1. Things would have to be pretty dire if Team Canada was panicking because they left Shawn Horcoff or Pierre-Marc Bouchard off the list. They wanted to recognize some guys for whatever reason. It's arbitrary, and may not make sense, but, it doesn't have to. This is where they can make those decisions, so that, when it comes down to picking the actual teams, they don't have to be as political, and just pick whoever they think gives them the best shot at winning.

I don't know how ppl are saying that canada could ice 3 teams and still win gold, silver and bronze. Any team except Team A (with all the best players) would be obliterated by the Czechs, Swedes and Russians.

Seriously half the ppl on that list are jokes. I still think Canada has the best team and should win gold but we're not that invicible.

Guys that pretty much have no chance at the team...

Goalies
Cam Ward
Curtis Joseph
Ed Belfour

Defencemen
Dan Boyle
Nick Boyton
Eric Desjardins
Barret Jackman
Kyle McLaren
Derek Morris
Dion Phaneuf
Sheldon Souray
Steve Staios

Forwards
Jeff Carter
Marc Chouinard
Kris Draper
Shawn Horcoff
Eric Lindross
Joffrey Lupul
John Madden
Kirk Maltby
Patrick Marleau
Glen Murray
Rob Niedermayer
Joe Nieuwendyk
Michael Richards
Michael Ryder
Brendan Shanahan
Eric Staal
Wes Walz

so take those names off (unless they really step up) and you have a list of
52 names

I have him in another pool actually, just wondering how a consistant 50 point, two-way centre doesn't make the list over say, Chuoinard.

That's why I put them together. Looked at my home-made depth chart thought "Naw I shouldn't" and then my more evil half got the best of me.

On another note, while not top-heavy, I think that that team wouldn't do half-badly in olympic competition. Not a medal winner, but not the worst on the ice.
