Surely Canada could have included Todd Hlushko and Yves Sarault to this list. Why stop at 81? 381 is a nice round number.

Because I see some rather uninformed choices being made with the 4 Sharks players, here are my thoughts on each of them:

Hannan: Will more than likely make the team. He's the kind of shut-down defenceman that every team needs, and I'm not sure I'd put all my stock into Foote in this case

Marleau: If there's any justice, he will make the team. Big, strong, slick skater. There were a couple of World Championship games where I swear he was the best forward on the ice for Canada. Besides, he's been a force so far this season, and if the new NHL setup can translate over to the olympics, he could dominate.

Stuart: At this point, I don't think the smart money is on Stuart. He's played some downright terrible games so far, and made a few bonehead decisions on the ice. If he wants to make it, he needs to pick it up defensively, and go on a tear (as much as is possible for a defenceman at least)

McLaren: I really like McLaren. He's a great bruising defenceman, and I really think he could push a lot of the other teams around, unfortunately, I do think he'll be a victim of the numbers game.

I'm surprised a guy like Trent Hunter didn't make the list for Canada, considering some of the other guys on there.

Either way it looks fine, people are complaining about some of the names, well it doesn't really matter because they're just playing it safe.

My Team Canada Looks like this: (not actual lines)

Iggy-Sakic-Lemiuex
Nash-Thornton-Gagne
St. Louis-Richards-Lecavelier
Bertuzzi-Spezza-Heatley
Crosby

Blake-Pronger
Brewer-Nieds
Jovo-Foote
Bouwmeester

Broduer
Luongo
Theodore

Why did the lists have to be submitted?

I understand why having the rosters known early, but why the whole list of possibles?

what i'd like to see

Sakic-Lemieux-Iginla (the killer line from salt lake)
Gagne-Spezz-Heatley (spezza and heatley are tearing it up, gagne makes them 1B)
Crosby-Lecavalier-Nash (Crosby might start as alt, but skill pushes him into roster)
Draper, Thorton (assuming he heals up), Primeau and Yzerman round out the roster

Pronger-Redden
Niedemayer-Jovonovski
Blake-Regher (assuming he heals, if not replaced by Hannan)
Phaneuf (you know team canada likes to have some young blood, this guy is the real deal, just ask Guerin!!!)

Brodeur
Luongo
Theodore (unless he makes a fuss about being #3, in which case Turco gets the spot)

The team is pretty much set except for 2nd and 3rd string goalies along with 7th or 8th defenseman depending on how many players they carry.

Gagne - Sakic - Iginla
Richards - Lecavalier - St. Louis
Nash - Thornton - Heatley
Doan - Draper - Smyth

Throw in Bertuzzi, Lemieux, Yzerman

Pronger - Blake
Niedermayer - Foote
Jovanoski - Brewer
Regher - Hannan

Brodeur

I know most people will say Brewer has been crap but he was a giant in the 02 Olympics and he will most likely make the team again. For goalie its a crapshoot. Any of Theodore, Luongo, Turco can make it however I don't see any other goalie being in the running.

If the team is pretty much set, it's based on what? October through mid December, as short as it is, will better indicate what level players are at than any preconceived ideas based on 2003-2004 and last years hodge-podge.

Its based on the fact that barring injuries, all but 5 guys (2 of them goalies) have proven themselves internationally and they all deserve to be there. Take a look at previous teams as well as who is running the teams and you can see that these are the guys that will be there.

Nice to see Bergeron on the list. While he won't make it now, he'll have a strong case in 2010. He is quickly becoming a much better player.

Also, any Canadian roster should have Nash on Thornton's line. These two guys are dynamite together (showed it in Switzerland and at the World Championships).

Bertuzzi - Sakic - Iginla
Nash - Thornton - Gagne
St. Louis - Lecavalier - Richards
Smyth/Kariya - Yzerman/Lemieux - Doan
Draper

Pronger - Niedermayer
Blake - Redden
Jovanovski - Foote
Bouwmeester - Hannan/Regehr

Brodeur
Luongo
Theodore

This is not the team I would send, but this would be my bet as to what they pick

Hopefully they won't be too loyal to some of the guys who have traditionally been there. Nothing against them, it's just time to move on. I will cry if Eric Brewer makes this team. And as much as I love Yzerman and Lemieux, I don't think there should be room for more than one of them

I'm not sure Theodore is a lock for the 3rd goalie spot either. Turco could give him a good run, or maybe even Belfour if they're looking for a steadier (albeit less spectacular) emergency plan

Omg

WOW Sheldon Sourray is invited... he's been playing so bad a the world championship and this year he cant do crap with the new rules, if they wanted some canadiens players they could have invited rivet or bouillon way before him... and i think that Ryder should have been invited he's got awsome scoring skills even if his general abillities are not that good.

He won't make the team, he's no longer Kevin Lowe's boy. Theres 10 defenceman from this country who are clearly better than Brewer, and about 10 more who could be argued as better.
