Yeah I said in another post I'd like to see them and the Rangers play a game... that'd be some good stuff.

I saw them for the first time this season for the 2nd period of the game vs. the Sharks, and wasn't impressed. Looks like I watched the wrong period.

So, all of those hockey experts who just a month ago were loudly proclaiming that the Wild would be the worst (or one of the two or three worst) teams in the NHL - and you all know who you are - I would just like to know... what say you now?

ha, yeah that made me laugh. Kind of the same way as when the Avs signed Brunette and I saw a person say how he was a really young guy with a lot of potential and upside, just waiting to breakout....

A good start considering tonight's game was the first game back with star player Marion Gaborik.

Which is certainly true. But I've watched every one of their games this year, and I haven't seen any reason to believe that this is a fluke. They look to me like they're for real. I don't think they're going to be one of the top 10 teams in the league, but I don't think it's too early to say that there's no way this team is one of the two or three worst in the league. No way at all.

FEAR DA WILD!

I'll eat it! I'll eat my crow. I thought that this team would struggle too with the small amount of FAs and shakey defense but wow Choiunard, Bouchard, White? They have been doing well.

Boogaard, everyone said that he would suck and he wouldn't do anything, has a goal and an assist already and it looks like Lemaire trusts him out there that he got 10 minutes of ice time tonight.

And tonight was the first time Gaborik came back. Just imagine when he isn't so rusty...

Depends..... league or conference ??

I still think the Wild may end up being one of the bottom 2 or 3 teams in the West. I may be wrong though.

I see the Blue Jackets as the only team that the Wild are clearly better than in the West, maybe the Blues. All other teams could just as easily finish ahead of the Wild. The West will be tough this year, Calgary, LA, Anaheim or Edmonton could end up near the bottom too......who knows, but I wouldn't say that this start means the Wild will be this good all year.

I don't think they're going to be this good all year, either. I expect them to level off a bit, and i also expect other teams to adapt to this "New NHL" as the season goes on. I think one of the reasons the Wild are doing so well is that Lemaire had them more prepared than most other teams to exploit the new rules. I believe other teams will catch up as the weeks go by.

But before the season started, I picked them to finish somewhere between 15 and 20 in the league. I still say that's about right - at best, one of the last 2 or 3 teams to qualify for the playoffs. Next year's a different story, but this year I think lower middle 1/3 is about right.

This is my line of thinking. They're incredible at home (so far), but they haven't done jack anywhere else.

As a Wild fan, I have been saying all along (since the rules changes came into effect), that they wouldn't be helped THAT much and they'd probably still be in the bottom 1/4 of the teams. But I am just about ready to admit I may have been wrong. It's early, but I could easily see THIS TEAM (that is, the way they are currently playing) make playoffs. They just need to learn to play on the road, and then extended it over the course of the season.

If I'm not wrong, it has been the trademark of the Wild to get off to good starts and then fade, I've always said their the bizarro brother of the Flyers who seemingly never ever fly out of the gate to start a season. The Wild and Rangers were my two surprise teams so far on the good end...the Rangers though getting a point took a rather tough defeat tonight in a game where they outplayed the Islanders...we'll see how they respond now, I have a feeling they get zapped at nassau coliseum tomorrow and they move back towards their end of the spectrum....the Wild need a testing defeat in my opinion although they are more talented than NYR overall

Obviously we'd re-evaluate. We only could make guesses on teams by their look on paper. I don't take it back.

People in the media and these forums tend to look at what a team is composed of on paper and don't put much consideration in the way the team is coached. The Wild are a very well coached team with one of the greatest hockey minds behind the bench.
