Wow, the Oilers are getting their collective arses kicked tonight against the Avs. 44-0. I hope the Canucks are watching.

Edit: I meant 4-0, but it might just end up to be 44.

The Oilers just haven't been playing well at all lately.

I certainly hope not.

For the last two powerplays, it's been the 3rd line and giving Marek Svatos and Wojtek Wolski some chances.

In the third period, we'll probably see alot of the third and fourth lines.

A large number of Avs fans feel Peter Budaj has been better than David Aebischer thus far, and Joel Quennville's move to play Budaj against the Canucks may indicate he feels the same way.

I wouldn't neccessarily be all that much happier to be playing Budaj over Aebi.

Don't get too excited RIAL, Edmonton has been playing god awful lately. The Canucks on the other hand have been playing well. Besides Edmonton doesn't have the hate-on for the Avs like Van does.

Still, I hope this arse kickin' tonight doesn't give the Avs too much confidence.

My comments had nothing to do with how the Avalanche are playing, or whom they're playing against.

The fact is that this is Milan Hejduk's first game of the season and he's been dominant every time the puck is on his stick. That excites me as an Avalanche fan, because he almost ALWAYS steps it up against the Canucks, and this may only be an indication of his capabilities tomorrow.

Let's be all nice and cutesy to each other tonight, Jewelly, because it'll probably get ugly tomorrow.

Well, they're not losing this one.

Once again I am vindicated in my claims and the rest of you are all simpering something-or-others.

Never ever EVER underestimate the Colorado Avalanche.

They still won't win the Cup this season :p

I think he's referring to the 80% or so of posters that predicted (pre-season) that the Avalanche would finish no higher than 8th this year.

And he's right.

This spanking by the Avs tonight is a good thing for the Canucks. They'll take them more seriously than ever. I'd rather have that than the Canucks coming out overconfident just b/c of their little winning streak they've got going.

This is good for Colorado cause they get to rest their big guns in the third. Had the game been close they would have had to work right until the end and hopefully been a bit worn down tomorrow.

Stupid Oilers...why do you have to be so useless?

6-1 Vancouver...

Budaj stands no chance against the big line and company.

It's only eight games in. How do we know where the Avs will finish up... they might be eighth.

Vancouver's on a major tear. They seem unbeatable right now. Every player is clicking as their biggest rival, the Colorado Avalanche, stroll into town.

What does Vancouver need to do to beat Colorado?
  • AVOID PENALTIES. Colorado's powerplay is absolutely lethal now that Hejduk is back.
  • Get Hejduk off his game. Stick Jarkko and Goren out against him early (but not too early). Hejduk is the X-factor in this matchup.
  • Block shots. Avalanche will try to pepper Cloutier. Linden should see more icetime than usual.
  • Throw hits, finish checks, start fights. This is a highly emotional matchup and Vancouver needs to swing the momentum any way they can.

Predicted Healthy Scratches:
  • Wade Brookbank (Liability in such an important game)
  • Alex Auld (Auld started two games ago, and I'm predicting a 2/1 split throughout the season. I expect Auld to start the succeeding game, though)

Random predictions:
  • Colorado will use the emotional strings behind May to their advantage. Look for May to try to start fights.
  • This is the beginning of a "mini-series" - three of Vancouver's next four opponents are Colorado. Look for some BIG hits, fights, and scrums to set the tone for the mini series.
  • This is Colorado's second game in two nights. They will be partially tired, so Vancouver coming strong out of the gate should give us a decided advantage.
  • My spider sense tells me that Denver will want to lynch Lee Goren after tomorrow night.

Summary:
I think that Colorado will outplay Vancouver despite their tired legs, but the way the bounces are going, I predict a 6-5 Vancouver OT win.

If Vancouver starts to do that, they'll lose.

You contradict yourself completely.

You want the team to avoid penalties, yet want them to start fights. That's retarded.

If you've noticed, Colorado blows out the Canucks in games where the Canucks do precisely what you just said they need to do to win! When the Canucks do that stuff and start taking penalties, they get owned.

Conversely, the games the Canucks beat and slaughter the Avalanche are the games where the action is high-paced and it's a back and forth game.

I just found that part to be rather amusing.
