Face Offs:

30/64 47%

Spezza 10/22, Smolinski 8/18, Vermette 8/11, Kelly 4/9

Icetime and Plus/Minus:
Pothier 12:17, +1
Chara 25:12, +1
Phillips 21:44, +2
Redden 26:45, E
Bochenski 14:07, +1
Alfredsson 20:20, E
Meszaros 12:41, +2
Heatley 20:34, +2
McGrattan 5:51, E
Spezza 17:34, +1
Vermette 13:37, +2
Smolinski 13:47, -1
Kelly 10:17, E
Volchenkov 16:58, E
Neil 16:08, +2
Varada 9:04, E
Schaefer 14:48, +2
Eaves 10:15, -1

PP: Ottawa 0-5, Tampa Bay 0-7

PP: 7:59
Alfredsson, Spezza, Heatley, Neil ~ 5 mins

SH: 10:49
Redden ~ 7 mins, Alfredsson ~ 5 mins

-Statistically, Vermette had a great game, winning 8 of 11 face-offs, and had a +2. Certainly should get consideration over #2 centre Smolinski, whose icetime was similar to Antoine's this game.

-Ottawa as a team had 9 take-aways to 3 give-aways

-Volchenkov led the team with 3 blocked shots

-Spezza had much less ice time than usual, in fact all 4 centres ranged from 10 to 17 minutes, which is a fairly small range

-Ottawa lost 70 % of their defensive zone face-offs. Why wasn't Vermette out there?

-Ottawa had 4 SOG to Tampa Bay's 2 SOG on all of the PP. Ottawa had 2 SOG SH, which equals Tampa's PP production.

He also played 13:37 minutes. You cant argue with that!

The Schaefer-Vermette line was clicking well.

Hopefully when Havlat comes back it will be an easy transition.

My perfect line-up would consist of:

Bochenski-Spezza-Heatley
Eaves-Fisher-Alfredsson
Schaefer-Vermette-Havlat
Varada-Kelly-Smolinski

But I think putting a player of Smoke's expense on the 4th line would be a potential distraction to the team.

Another possibility is:

Bochenski-Spezza-Heatley
Smolinski-Fisher-Alfredsson
Schaefer-Vermette-Havlat
Varada-Kelly-McGrattan

I wrote those exact lines in another thread somewhere! Schaefer and Vermette are the only 2 besides Spezza that "click" with Havlat. IMO that lineup would be the best aswell (except maybe Neil in place of McGrattan on the 4th line, with McG as the 13th forward). Then in case of injury you basically bring Eaves up and make him Alfie's LW partner while Smolinski goes to fill in whatever hole is created.

So against CAR it will be:
Bochenski-Spezza-Heatley
Eaves-Smolinski-Alfredsson
Schaefer-Vermette-Neil
Varada-Kelly-McGrattan
